Hangzhou is located in the east of China, the lower reaches of Qiantang River, the southeast coast, the north of Zhejiang, and the southern end of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is the core city of Greater Bay Area around Hangzhou Bay, the central city of G60 Science and Technology Corridor in Shanghai, Jiaxing and Hangzhou, and an important international e-commerce center. There are many cultural relics in Hangzhou, and there are many natural and cultural landscape relics in and around the West Lake. Representative ones are West Lake Culture, Liangzhu Culture, Silk Culture and Tea Culture.

Hangzhou has a natural environment where rivers, lakes and mountains blend together. Hills and mountains account for 65.6% of the total area, plains account for 26.4%, and rivers, lakes and reservoirs account for 8%. The longest artificial canal in the world, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Qiantang River, which is famous for its tidal bore, pass through.

By the end of 20 16, there are lines in Hangzhou, including Shanghai-Kunming line (Zhejiang-Jiangxi section, Shanghai-Hangzhou section), Xiaoyong line and Xuanhang line.

The existing high-speed railways include Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway, Ning Hang high-speed railway, Hangzhou-Ningbo high-speed railway and Hangzhou-Changzhou high-speed railway. On February 20 14+ 14, the Hangzhou-Nanchang section of the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway was officially opened for operation, and the Nanchang-Changsha section has been opened for operation. At this point, the entire section of the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway from Hangzhou to Changsha was opened to traffic. Hangzhou became the first high-speed rail crossing the city in China.
