Since 1952, he has served as the first and third members of CPPCC, the fourth, fifth and sixth standing committee members, the member of China Agricultural Society, the member of Anhui Agricultural Science Research Association, the executive director and consultant of Anhui Agricultural Society, the executive director and consultant of China Tea Society, the chairman and consultant of Anhui Tea Society, and the honorary chairman and standing committee member of Anhui Science and Technology Association.

Even during the Cultural Revolution, he never stopped writing and wrote The Complete Book of Tea Making. 1977, on his deathbed, he worked day and night, wrote the first monograph on tea history at home and abroad, including General History of Tea Industry, History of Tea Trade in China, Tea Medicine, etc., and presented gifts to the National Science Conference, expressing an intellectual's sincere heart to the party and the people. Later, he compiled nearly 40 books, including Tea-making Technology, Selected Studies on Famous Tea in China, Tea Merchandise, Tea Management, Tea Pharmacy, Tea Marketing, Tea Trade and Tea Economics, covering tea-making science, tea cultivation science and tea inspection science.

Professor Xie Chen devoted his life to the study of tea science, which promoted the development of tea science and tea production. He has published nearly 200 research papers in various fields, some of which have been translated into English, French and Japanese and published in international academic journals.
