Li Xiucheng suggested a breakthrough from Tianjing. Why did Hong Xiuquan refuse?
1In March of 853, Hong Xiuquan led the Taiping Army to occupy Nanjing, renamed Tianjing as the capital of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and built Tianwangfu on a large scale in the city. In order to besiege Tianjing, the Qing army set up Jiangnan camp and Jiangbei camp respectively, but they were successively breached by Taiping Army. However, in 1862, the situation has changed. After the occupation of Anqing, Zeng Guofan dispatched troops and planned a military operation with the main goal of recovering Nanjing.

Ceng Guoquan led the main force of Xiang army down the river, swept all the way, and arrived at Nanjing Yuhuatai on May 30th. From then on, the battle of Tianjing began. Hong Xiuquan quickly sent someone to urge Li Xiucheng to return to Yuan, when Li Xiucheng was attacking Shanghai. Since then, the Taiping rebels have been defeated, and Tianjing City is in danger. Under the close supervision of Hong Xiuquan, Li Xiucheng had to give up Suzhou and lead the main rescue.

However, Li Xiucheng also failed to change the situation in Tianjing. He led more than 100,000 troops to fight the Qing army in Yuhuatai. The two sides fought fiercely for more than 40 days, and the Taiping Army failed to break through the defense line of the Qing army. Li Xiucheng led the army into the city, and Li Shixian retreated to Moling Pass. The battle to rescue Tianjing ended in failure. At that time, Li Xiucheng's army was the strongest, and he didn't succeed, which meant that Tianjing had no foreign aid.

When Li Xiucheng entered the city, he found that the situation in the city was very bad. Due to the long-term siege of the Qing army, the food supply in the city has been very difficult, and Tianjing City has actually fallen into a situation of "no food outside and no reinforcements inside". Li Xiucheng then came to Tianwangfu and proposed to Hong Xiuquan "Don't let the city go", that is, to break through Tianjing and move to other places in order to make a comeback. But Hong Xiuquan flew into a rage and severely reprimanded Li Xiucheng.

Li Xiucheng unwilling. He made a long speech and explained the actual situation one by one. Unexpectedly, Hong Xiuquan growled, "I came to the world by the orders of God and my brother Jesus. I am the only God in the world. What is there to be afraid of? " I am an iron drum. I don't help it. Someone helps it. You said there were no soldiers, and we had more heavenly soldiers than water. Why are we afraid of those possessed by demons? "At this time, the time will probably end at 1863 and start at 1864.

A few months later, Tianjing City was completely in a state of no food, and Li Xiucheng came to report again, "There was no food in the city, and many men and women died. I ask for a decree. What should I do? " Hong Xiuquan immediately ordered, "Eating manna in the whole city can keep you healthy." The so-called "nectar" is weeds1On May 30, 864, Hong Xiuquan issued his last will, "The public will feel at ease, and I will go to heaven, and I will get the heavenly soldiers from my heavenly father and brother to protect Tianjing."

Two days later, Hong Xiuquan swallowed his last breath. Some people say that he died of illness, while others say that he committed suicide. A month and a half later, the heavenly soldiers didn't come, and the Qing army came. They attacked Nanjing and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom fell. Then the question is, why did Hong Xiuquan reject Li Xiucheng's suggestion? In fact, from Hong Xiuquan's words, we can see that he is completely "possessed" and has lost the reason of a normal person. Maybe he really thinks of himself as the son of God!
