Medicago sativa L. is a leguminous alfalfa. Perennial herb, much branched, 30- 100 cm high. Leaves with 3 leaflets; Leaflets obovate or oblanceolate, length 1-2 cm, width 0.5 cm, rounded apex, slightly protruding middle rib, serrated upper leaf margin, white villous on both sides; Petiole is about 1 mm long and hairy; Stipules lanceolate, apex pointed, pilose, about 5 mm long. Racemes axillary; Calyx pilose, calyx teeth narrowly lanceolate, acute; Corolla purple, longer than calyx.
