The First Pusher of Modern Martial Arts —— Comment on Bu's Biography of Modern Chivalrous Heroes (No.8 of Ye Hongsheng's Martial Arts Review Series)

All practitioners know that those who are good at playing Tai Ji Chuan will always be "pushers". Cover the "thirteen potentials" as the body and "push hands" for use. People who practice the "thirteen potential" boxing frame alone, in addition to being beneficial to their health, do nothing about technology and eventually become "empty shelves"; We must know how to use "pushing hands" and make full use of our own strength to achieve the effect of self-defense against the enemy. Therefore, "pushing hands" is extremely mysterious and crucial. It's for Tai Ji Chuan. Well done!

Today, if we use this concept to compare man and boxing, we can call Xiang Kairan, an unfilial student at Pingjiang, the first "pusher" of modern martial arts novels (martial arts circles). Because he is not only proficient in martial arts, but also promoted the great wheel of China's martial arts creation with books such as Biography of Modern Chivalrous Men and Biography of Jianghu Chivalrous Men, and set off the climax of the first "martial arts revival" since the early Republic of China.

Among Xiang's works, Modern Chivalrous Biography is a martial arts novel with profound meaning. It is not only a biography of a ranger who went in and out between reality and ideals in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, but also a vivid description of the origin and development of martial arts. After grasping the pulse of the times, he wrote for the famous gentry and ordinary people in society; Then commend the national righteousness and patriotism, and make people think hard about strengthening the body and strengthening the species! Today, 70 years after the publication of this magnificent masterpiece (84 times in total, more than one million words), it is still lively to relive the old dreams! Its theme content and brushwork language also have certain practical significance and enlightenment for martial arts writers who have recently flaunted "modernism" and "ultra-new school" but lost themselves. Therefore, the author is determined to rearrange the old works, evaluate them carefully and discuss them in depth.

At Pingjiang, there is nothing wrong with him.

Bu, whose real name is Xiang Kairan, was born in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province in the 16th year of Guangxu reign (1890). He is gifted and intelligent, and has a strong national consciousness. After graduating from Changsha Chuyi Industrial School, in order to save the country, he went to Japan twice to study, and successively entered Huaqiao Middle School and Hosei University. So I observed and experienced Japanese social customs and people's feelings, and how they became rich and powerful.

Xiang wrote a lot in his life, and his first book, Notes on Boxing Score, was written in the first year of the Republic of China. When I planned to go to Japan for the second time, I suffered from no travel expenses; Due to the introduction of fellow countryman Song Chiping (a famous screenwriter), the manuscript of Boxing Notes was sold to Changsha Daily, and it went smoothly. After studying for several years, it is not easy to find a job, but to make a living; What I saw and heard during my stay in Japan was written as History of Oriental Studies, which alluded to real people and stories. It can be said that China's modern foreign students' literature is the first!

Later, because this book was very popular with readers, Xiang continued to write a series of novels such as A Supplement to the History of Overseas Oriental Studies, A History of New Oriental Studies, and A History of Yandong Studies with the signature "You were not born at Pingjiang". Someone once asked him the origin of this name, and he said, "People all over the world call me a Taoist; The husband is big, so he seems greedy. " This language comes from Laozi's Tao Te Ching; It turns out that being so "corrupt" is not a modest remark.

When the tetralogy "Stay in the East" was published in Shanghai, it attracted experts' attention because it involved martial arts and martial arts. He is humorous and talkative, so he made friends with Du (Nanxia), Liu Baichuan (Beixia), Tong (Shandong Xiangma), Wu (Taiji Chuan family), Huang (Tongbi Boxing King), Liu Tiyi and Gu He, and studied martial arts. Du, Huang and Huang, the leaders of the Shanghai Green Red Gang, are also guests. They are also passing by. So I have a wide range of knowledge and experience, and I know all the rules and thresholds of Jianghu. All these will lay a solid foundation for his future martial arts creation.

1in the spring of 922, the director of Shanghai World Bookstore wrote a book about chivalry at the invitation of Bao, a famous novelist, and conceived two books at the same time: Biography of Jianghu Chivalrous Men and Biography of Modern Chivalrous Men. The former is mainly based on anecdotes of rivers and lakes and rural legends, and mainly based on fiction; The latter is based on real people and real kung fu, combined with historical facts. The following year, it was serialized in Shanghai Red Magazine Weekly and Detective World Bimonthly respectively, and published by World Bookstore. At that time, Luoyang paper was expensive and famous all over the country! Became the first generation of "Wulin League Leader" in the early years of the Republic of China.

Before the Anti-Japanese War, Xiao Sheng had two records of giving up writing. The first time was at the beginning of the Republic of China 16, because of the workers' riots in Shanghai, the society was in chaos; Xiao Sheng not only went to Peiping and Tianjin, but also returned to Shanghai to continue his pen farming after the September 18th Incident. Because I hate the Japanese aggressors, I used the topic in the second half of Modern Chivalrous Heroes. Its strong nationalism is rare in modern martial arts departments. The second time, in 22 years of the Republic of China, because of the concept that a strong country must first grow strong, it was put down in the rivers and lakes. At the invitation of He Jian, Chairman of Hunan Province, he returned to Hunan to organize a martial arts training institute and organize a martial arts club (that is, a martial arts school in Hunan); In addition, holding the national Wushu competition in Changsha has also made great contributions to promoting national sports.

In 26 years of the Republic of China, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression started, and Bu Xiaosheng of Pingjiang was hired as the director of the General Office of Anhui Provincial Government and a professor of Anhui University, so he had no time or mind to write martial arts novels. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, I returned to Shanghai and opened a new chapter. It is understood that his last two works, one is The Legend of Du, which was written by Du, the master of martial arts at that time, and published in Xianghai Pictorial. A, iron hero (formerly known as the unsung hero, also known as revolutionary unofficial history) mainly wrote the tragic stories of Qiu Jin and other revolutionary heroes before and after the Wuchang Uprising, published in Shanghai Star Daily. Unfortunately, because the mainland changed color, they didn't finish it.

1949 After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), all of Bu Xiaosheng's works were classified as "poisonous weeds". Although Xiang was appointed as a member of the Hunan Provincial Political Consultative Conference, he "completely abandoned Wu" and did nothing; He sees through the world of mortals, worships Buddha for a long time, and lives in seclusion under the Qifeng Mountain in Changsha. He lived a colorful life at the age of 67 until he died of cerebral hemorrhage in 1957.

Now it's "The Legend of the Knight Rider in the Late Qing Dynasty"

Among the fourteen martial arts novels written by Bu, nothing is more famous and influential than The Legend of the Wonder Man in the Jianghu. However, the reason why this book is famous in the world is that Shanghai Star Film Company has adapted the original work and successively filmed 18 episodes of "Burning Red Lotus Temple", which was widely publicized and all the rage. As far as the novel and ideological connotation are concerned, it is far less than the seven realities and three vacuities of modern chivalrous men.

From the title of Modern Chivalrous Heroes, we can know that this book is the legacy of Chivalrous Heroes in Qing Dynasty (adapted from Bao Gongan in Ming Dynasty, the predecessor of Three Heroes and Five Righteousnesses-Elvis Presley) and Heroes of Children, in order to commend chivalrous heroes in Jianghu. But because of the word "modern", the meaning is very different.

According to what the author said at the beginning of the first book: "This book is a portrayal of chivalrous heroes in the past twenty years." The time is roughly based on the martyrdom of the "Six Gentlemen of the Reform Movement of 1898" in the 24th year of Guangxu in the late Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1898), and it is pushed up and down for about ten years. The deeds of individual characters continued to the early years of the Republic of China. Almost everything he said is true, which can be said to be Biographies of Chivalrous Men in the Late Qing Dynasty and Biographies of Modern Martial Arts. But after all, this is a novel rather than "Historical Records of Martial Arts", and it is inevitable that it will be hearsay and collusion. But the author is good at kneading stories, and often can highly unify the truth of history (characters) and the truth of art (plots); It's fascinating. This is not comparable to ordinary popular novelists.

Unfortunate words are concise, vivid and can be put away freely; It's dignified and cold. His description of characters is extremely meticulous, especially good at metaphor, and he can win his spirit with a few strokes. In terms of novel skills, I like to use "splitting bamboo" and "peeling bamboo shoots", and each person leads another person. Turn layer by layer, and it will come naturally. For example, The Biography of Modern Chivalrous Heroes, with the broadsword Wang Wu and Tan Sitong as the forerunner, brings out the biography of the great warrior Huo Yuanjia. Then Huo's "mystery technique" brought out all the heroes in the late Qing Dynasty. Finally, the Japanese poisoned Huo Yuanjia, which was summarized into a book. Its inheritance and integration, care before and after, like a person. The following is an analysis of the main characters' stories, themes and meanings, martial arts schools, martial arts skills, Jianghu thresholds and rules in this book.

Huo Yuanjia's "Three Dozens of Foreign Hercules"

The book "Courage of Modern Chivalrous Heroes" is actually Huo Yuanjia; As for the Jianghu heroes such as broadsword Wang Wu, in the book, they are just silhouettes and foil. Although this book was written by a master, because of the string of characters, the stories are connected, just like a snake in a long mountain, echoing from beginning to end; Therefore, climax after climax, brilliant. Among them, the legendary story of Huo Yuanjia's "Three Beating Foreign Hercules" can best show the patriotic feelings and experiences of the inexperienced students in Pingjiang.

According to Huo Yuanjia, the word Jun Qing is from Xiaohe 'nan Village, Jinghai County, Tianjin; Family-handed "Lost Trace" Kung Fu has the wonderful characteristics of coming and going without a trace and unpredictable, so it is famous in five northern provinces and is called "invincible". However, Huo Jiaquan's real fame and admiration is not based on "the art of losing his trace", but on Huo Yuanjia's patriotic and chivalrous spirit of "though thousands of people died".

Huo Yuanjia didn't appear until the fifth chapter of Modern Chivalry. The author deliberately adopts the method of innuendo, instead of directly writing about how amazing Huo's martial arts and divine power are, he teaches readers to get a comprehensive impression from the mouth of the bartender and the eyes of Wang Wu, the broadsword: that is, Master Huo (the fourth in the family) has more than 1,000 kilograms of strength; You can kick the big stone roller that presses the street far away. How powerful is this "jumping leg" kung fu!

But I don't know whether it is intentional or unintentional. In Pingjiang, Bu Xiaosheng never described the appearance of Hoss and Wang Wu in detail, and the focus seemed to be on their heroism and chivalry. For example, this "Biography of Martial Arts" begins with Tan Sitong's poem "I laugh at the sky from the horizontal knife, I will stay in Kunlun Mountain", which leads to the history of Tan's intersection with Wang, but makes no mention of the appearance of Wu Wang; I only know that he is brave and fearless, fighting for injustice. He bravely escorted the adviser Ann Wei Jun (who was demoted for playing Li Hongzhang) to the outside, thus making a name for himself. As for his martial arts, it is useless and shows no power.

In the book, Huo Yuanjia's writing of "Three Hitting Foreign Hercules" is also similar to the former. In principle, "three strikes out" must have three vigorous dragons to enter; However, the author only deliberately described the subjective and objective situation and the psychological state of the parties before the contest, but did not actually write down the process of fighting between the two sides; And Huo Yuanjia, the great hero representing national integrity, is brought out by comparison.

The objects of these three contests are Russian Big Nose, African Dark Lord and English Old Fox. Because they all regarded China as the "sick man of East Asia", they advertised in newspapers and were arrogant, which aroused the determination of Huo Yuanjia, a hero of China, to "resist aggression". The words and deeds of Huo, as a warrior, unwilling to be humiliated by his country are really vigorous and exciting, which makes him "and while one man guards it, and while one man guards it".

For the first time, the so-called "Russian Hercules" posted advertisements everywhere in Tianjin, claiming that their strength is the highest in the world. According to the book, when Huo Yuanjia saw the advertisement saying that "there are only three Hercules in the world" (one is Russian, the other is German and the third is British) and insinuated that China has none, he couldn't help crying: "Bastard! How dare you come to China to perform as an artist and despise us China people? Dare to make it clear that we have no Hercules in China! " So I decided to "compete" with this Russian nose!

At this juncture, a figure whose importance is second only to Huo Yuanjia-Nong Sun Jin appeared in time. A passage introducing this person in the book can well reflect the original author's ideas and views in Pingjiang:

This farmer Sun Jin is from Anhui. He was born with knife-shaped eyebrows and temples. His eyes are as bright as electricity, and his eyes are bright. He is about the same age as Huo Junqing (Yuanjia). He really can speak fluent English without fists and pens. (omitted) At that time, China people could speak English, which was less than one-tenth of what it is now; The English-speaking people in China, 19, have the roots of foreign slaves, and most of them know nothing about China; I don't even know my own name, and I can't write! It's hard to find two or three out of a hundred people who can know the decency of the whole country and their own personality! (See Chapter 14 of the original book)

This cynicism about the foreign slave comprador in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China is really stirring. But it is said that the agricultural Sun Jin that runs through China and the West is not; Because this person hates evil, is naturally chivalrous and has national pride. Some people who don't know his temperament and are "used to bullying China people on weekdays" will "suddenly turn against him" if they treat him as a foreign slave, and will also teach the other party to admit their mistakes and be self-centered, so as to win the respect of westerners. Huo Yuanjia has such a "westernized" bosom friend, who has both chivalry and courage, and it is easy to deal with foreign cattle.

The book said that Huo and Nong were very angry when they saw the "nonsense advertisement". Because Nong Sun Jin knows English, he took part in the negotiation of the competition. It is of great practical significance for the author to talk crazily about "Russian Hercules" on the stage through translation: "(1) When I was at home, I heard that China was the sick man's country of the East; People all over the country are like sick people, and no one pays attention to sports. I didn't believe it at that time. I traveled all over Europe and America and heard about it. When I arrived in China, I carefully looked at the social situation and proved that what I heard before was not false. Sports is related to the strength of the nation and the rise and fall of the country. How can the country not have a well-organized specialized research institution? In order to let the people of China know the value of sports, I dedicated my skills in Tianjin for a week, and then I went to Beijing and Shanghai. I sincerely welcome sports experts and Hercules from China to study with me. " (same as above)

Later, George W. Xiao Sheng described in detail the arm strength of this Russian bull. He could break the chain as thick as a teacup. It can lift a big cage of 25 people-instead of a raw iron plate, it can lift more than 2700 kilograms. At the end, it is a super cow who "pulls mountains and breathes the world"!

But despite the Russian imposing manner, Huo Yuanjia is still "indifferent", as if nothing had happened. Only when the master of art is bold and unrestrained can "Mount Tai collapse in the front and remain unchanged"-besides, in Huo's eyes, Luo Cha, known as "the best in the world", is just a stubborn stone!

As soon as the performance of "Russian Hercules" was over, Huo Yuanjia invited Nong Sun to come in to negotiate and compete on stage. Unexpectedly, Lord Luo Cha turned out to be a paper tiger. When he saw his rage, he was afraid. Under the pretext of "new here, I don't know the methods of domestic martial artists", I dare not participate in the competition; I just want to "meet and hate each other, do talk research."

Huo Yuanjia put it well: "Since he claims to be the strongest man in the world, isn't China the best in the world?" ? How can you say that you don't know the method of China Wushu competition? Not without competition. Who wants to talk to him? He said that China is the "sick man country of the East", and all China people are like this sick man. He is the strongest man in the world, but he is afraid of what the patients in this patient country are doing. ……"

Although the negotiations have been going on for a long time, there is still no result. The Russian bull was frightened by the smell of Huo Yuanjia's fist. I am willing to be a coward, and I dare not go on stage to fight. In the book, Nong said: "Mr. Huo's temperament has always been patriotic. He doesn't care that the individual despises him; But I met a foreigner who despised China so much. His life can be spared, and the foreigner will be guilty! "

Finally, Huo Yuanjia put forward three conditions, so that "Russian Hercules" can choose one. The demon king of Luo Cha was afraid to take part in the competition, and didn't want to cancel the "world's first" cowhide in the newspaper. At last, he was totally embarassed and fled in a panic. From then on, Huo Yuanjia became famous, and his fame spread far and wide. But he sighed, "what is this? Although I was very angry at the time and drove him away, what he said on the stage really hit the nail on the head ... What's the use of being strong! " Therefore, Nai Henong is determined to promote Chinese Wushu.

In Pingjiang, he wrote about the love of Huo Yuanjia, a great warrior, who was affectionate and angry, and all kinds of pen and ink showed the word "chivalrous". What they advocated was that foreigners should treat our nation equally, so "evil words must be countered" was by no means comparable to the so-called "blind exclusion" at that time. What hurts is that the country is weak and the society worships foreign things and flatters foreign countries; Let outsiders despise and take pleasure in "insulting China."

Therefore, Haworth believes that if you want to strengthen the country, you must first strengthen the species, and the strong species must first strengthen the body; To break the psychological barrier of "the sick man's country in East Asia-Pepsi is not as good as people", we must show some skills and fight a few "foreign giants"! One is to teach foreigners that China's martial arts are profound and profound, which is beyond his reach; The second is to teach China people the way of self-respect and self-improvement, and achieve the goal of rejuvenating China through physical exercise. So Huo Yuanjia's "one dozen" Russian cattle is not enough, and there are "two dozen" and "three dozen" cases.

The object of the "second big" is "British Hercules" Obin. His agent first used various means to test Huo Yuanjia's strength; When he learned that flint could break the wrist force machine (maximum limit 1600 kg), he knew that Obin was by no means his enemy, but they escaped overnight.

The goal of "Strike Three" is Meng Kang, an African, a "Black Hercules". His agent is an old fox, and he has long heard that China Kung Fu is powerful. So when the two sides were asked to wrestle, Huo Yuanjia "didn't punch, didn't kick, didn't stand out, didn't shoulder, didn't elbow-his fingers couldn't poke straight!" It was all hooliganism, so Huo Yuanjia had to give up angrily.

As can be seen from this book, Huo's three dozen foreign devils are "soldiers who defeat others without fighting", and the author's original intention is not to "fight", but to commend the "inviolable" spirit of the Chinese nation. However, Han Qilong, the leader of the Boxer Rebellion, treated human life like dirt, and Huo Yuanjia was really fed up and had to do something for the people.

A fake "divine spring" meets a real "divine spring"

According to the book, the Boxer Movement broke out shortly after Huo Yuanjia angered the Russians. The "Cultural Revolution" of the Qing Dynasty came to light; In addition to the southeast provinces in order to "protect themselves", the whole China chaos. Boxing bandits burned and looted everywhere under the banner of "helping the Qing Dynasty to destroy the foreign countries", with foreigners and China Catholics (Catholics and Christians) bearing the brunt.

First, Han Qilong, the leader of the Boxer Rebellion, admired Huo Yuanjia's reputation and sent someone to persuade him to come out. It is said that Han's "magic fist" is as powerful as his "magic power"-as long as he shouts, the foreign devil's gun will be "naturally sealed and can't be played again"! However, Huo Yuanjia said, "... I studied boxing, especially taught by others, and I don't believe in magical boxing. If someone who knows the "divine boxing" dares to compare with my "human boxing", I can promise him anytime and anywhere, not afraid of his awesome boxing. As for the mountains and rivers of Qing Dynasty, we don't need the help of ordinary people! "(see chapter 15 of the original book)

It can be seen that Huo Yuanjia's knowledge and ambition are indeed clear-cut and full of strong national consciousness. This is what Gu, a great scholar in the late Ming Dynasty, said: "Where there is national subjugation, there is national subjugation", which is unambiguous!

At the beginning of the "fist chaos", Huo Yuanjia once said to his good friend Nong Sun Jin, "I only hate that I have no strength. If I have power, I must destroy this class first. " Nong Sun Jin advised him to be careful what he said, lest this class of "evil spirits and wild religion" in turn embarrass him. But he said seriously, "am I afraid they will embarrass me?" The country will die, and there will be evil! These things are evil. What am I afraid of? "

When Han Qilong led the Boxer Rebellion to Tianjin, the lives of more than 1,000 China parishioners were at stake. Huo Yuanjia was furious, but let the farmers put up a notice saying that all the parishioners who had nowhere to escape had taken refuge in the Huaiqing Hall opened by the Huo family. In the eighteenth and nineteenth chapters of the original book, Huo and Nong fought bravely to protect their parishioners, and the Boxer Rebellion captured the base area twice, which was dizzying.

Finally, the Boxer Rebellion decided to attack with a red cannon. Huo Yuanjia, in desperation, took the family's Yanling Bao Dao, with the help of alcohol, and went to the boxer camp to fight alone. He is playing the idea of "shoot people first, shoot horses first, catch thieves first", and he is desperate to kill Han Qilong.

At Pingjiang, he wrote that Huo Yuanjia was drunk and split Han Qilong by 10%, and the rabbit fell, which can be described as "as fast as an ice guide and as cold as a pear". It is worth introducing as follows:

Huo Yuanjia stood in the distance and heard a few words: "What an ungrateful Huo Yuanjia! I regard him as a hero and specially send someone to invite him to join us;" He not only disobeyed, but also openly opposed us. You all work hard. Only after noon, if he doesn't hand over all the 1500-odd teaching bastards, I, Han Qilong, will catch him and dismember him ... "The next word" Duan "never came out, but Huo Yuanjia flew like a gust of wind and pulled up his sword. Only two clicks were heard, and Han Qilong's two armed arms were separated from himself. He was lying under the table.

When Han Qilong's arm was not broken, the "magic soldier" in Manping heard a loud cry: "Huo Yuanjia is coming!" It's Huo Yuanjia's shadow. Nobody saw it. Han Qilong's body collapsed, and he heard a loud cry: "Huo Yuanjia, don't accompany me!" " Most people in the audience were so scared that their weapons fell for no reason. (See Chapter 19 of the original book)

Since then, Huo Yuanjia's reputation has shocked the world. Some people call him the Flash, and some even call him "Sword Fairy"!

Theory and Practice of "Lost Trace Art"

In The Legend of Modern Chivalrous Heroes, the author repeatedly claimed that Huo Yuanjia's martial arts chinese odyssey was due to his legendary "lost art". As the name implies, the word "missing" refers to its posture. Its "art" is unfathomable to outsiders; However, after becoming an expert, the reader suddenly understood the mystery of his boxing theory.

See the original seventy-second, Prince Chun, a hero outside Syria, eager for Huo Yuanjia's chivalrous name to seek art; Flint performed a fist, full of hands, "showing" no energy; That meal made Wang Zichun suspicious and repeatedly asked why. Huo Yuanjia's words here are meaningful and reasonable:

"The advantage of tracing is that you don't need strength when practicing; Slow down because you don't need strength. Practicing posture is the body, and fighting with people is useful; Practice' body' slowly, and practice' use' quickly. ..... My lost art seems to be slow, but it is actually fast; It's just that when I say fast, I don't mean the rapid flexion and extension of my hands, nor the rapid advance and retreat of my feet. They all see people's shortcomings with a pair of eyes. When people fight with each other, there are flaws anytime and anywhere, but I'm afraid I can't see them with my eyes. Because there is no flaw before people move, and there is no flaw after people move-the flaw is only in an instant. So people who are not very skilled in martial arts are not easy to be seen; If you don't see the flaw, you take the liberty to start work. Not only can you not knock down people, but sometimes you will be knocked down. "

This dialogue text that analyzes the theory of boxing has become the so-called "slow and fast", "overcoming defects" and even "I will not move if the enemy does not move; If the enemy moves, I will move first "(latecomers come first) and so on.

So, is it really necessary to use the "lost art"? Use! But its magic lies in "deal with a man as he deals with you", which means "use your strength". In the words of Huo Yuanjia, the author tells his own understanding of Wushu:

"My fan trace technique also pays great attention to gas strength; However, what we are concerned about is not that two arms have hundreds of pounds of strength, nor that two legs can kick multiple sandbags; Just concentrate on practicing, see what flaws people have, and then how to make moves. Hit someone somewhere and knock him down with some strength; Gas strength is not used in useless places!

"For example, if a person walks in a dark place, the person who wants to play tricks on him only needs to trip his foot with a little finger thick hemp rope, and he can stumble. How strong can this little finger-thick hemp rope be? Why can it trip people over? This is why he used his strength to go forward without paying attention to the flaws under his feet ... From this perspective, it can be seen that hitting people is not full of strength, but is just right. People who practice the technique of finding people are simply teaching people to beat themselves, don't be angry! " (See Chapter 72 of the original book for the above points)

This is really about learning boxing theory, and it's all written from an approachable place. It serves to show that you are an old hand at the wheel, so that you can explain it in simple terms, and give an example nearby so that people can understand it at a glance. This is completely different from the situation that martial arts writers know what they know but don't know why.

In the same episode of the original book, after describing Huo Yuanjia's unique skills and analyzing the theory of boxing, it was written that Huo and Wang tried to prove whether the theory was in line with reality. In Pingjiang, students who are not familiar with the world further supplement this point. First, Wang Zichun started the posture of "attacking slowly with quick strokes", but Huo Yuanjia "braked with static strokes". Wang Zichun kicked Huo Yuanjia on the back with his first foot, "just like kicking on a big bag of cotton", without any pressure; When the second kick hit his neck, he shouted, "It's like being dumped all over" and fell to the ground. I've got a broken bone and I can't stand up.

According to the records in the book, Huo Yuanjia explained: "People who practice boxing with strength on weekdays must concentrate on one side when practicing boxing; Not fists, toes, shoulders or elbows, or arms or knees ... My family's maze technique doesn't need strength when practicing, and it doesn't matter if you concentrate on one side. Usually the strength is not concentrated, and time is needed everywhere. There is nothing that can't be achieved. "So, once you meet the enemy and get kicked, you can' temporarily resist' and be invincible.

In fact, this kind of description is by no means beyond the "lost art". However, in Pingjiang, this inexperienced student imposed this attachment on Huo Yuanjia with his own experience of learning family kungfu. Because of a close look at the whole book, Huo is famous for his natural divine power and kung fu. Lonely at home, lack of further study, and finally injured and died. Therefore, it's okay to call it "borrowing" (technique), and it's ridiculous to call the whole body "sending out strength to resist" (internal strength)!

It makes sense to say that Wang Zichun's feet are "as hard as stones" rather than "like cotton". )

Compare Chinese and Western Wushu and Chinese and Western Wushu.

Although this book about Huo Yuanjia's martial arts looks a bit confusing; In fact, we should also practice "qi" and "energy" in both, and there is no reason to neglect one thing. The difference still lies in the fact that kung fu at home pays attention to practicing gas, while kung fu at home pays attention to practicing strength, and combines the technique with the leg method, so the achievements are different. But at a deeper level, it's not entirely true. Kung fu outside the cover has its fundamental defect that it is "too rigid to fold", but it is beyond the understanding of experts who practice both inside and outside.

At pingkiang, an unscrupulous student once pointed out in Chapter 13 of The Legend of Modern Chivalrous Heroes:

"My wife often uses the metaphor of' iron cabinet holds glass' to describe and dig at my wife. The meaning of this metaphor is that people who do kung fu outside work hard from the skin and don't ask the viscera. Even if you practice to the extreme, you will only practice until the skin is like an iron cabinet, but the internal organs are as fragile as glass; Sometimes fighting with people, although it can keep the flesh from breaking, it is inevitable that the internal organs will be injured. "

Huo Yuanjia's "lost track technique" is famous for his posture and technique, and his "jumping leg" kung fu was called chinese odyssey at that time. However, there is a lack of research on internal work. Therefore, the more you fight with people in your life, the greater your resistance to attack; If it accumulates to a certain extent, it will naturally form "internal injuries" and die out of control.

Back to Pingjiang, the original 54th, a prodigal student, through the mouth of Qin, a master who is good at distinguishing Huangshu at home, continued to tell the "cause" of Huo Yuanjia:

"His fault lies in his martial arts-success is too fast and internal strength is too poor. The strength of his right hand exceeds 1000 pounds; And take a closer look at his heart, I'm afraid even four hundred catties is not enough. Do you think you can bear the remaining six or seven hundred Jin? ..... For example, if a thousand pounds of force hits you, it really weighs a thousand pounds; It's just that the strength of this thousand pounds is exerted, and the strength of earthquake resistance is also one thousand pounds. If I can bear 1000 kilograms of earthquake resistance internally, this 1000 kilograms of force will completely fall on the enemy, and I will not be injured; If you don't do internal work, your hands are more than 1000 kilograms. The enemy can't stand it, and he is also internally injured. Isn't this a big problem? "

This quotation seems long-winded, but it is extremely true and credible, which conforms to the scientific principle of "reaction".

Take a look at chapter 78 of the original work. Japanese doctor Akino examined Huo Yuanjia's body with X-rays and found "abnormality". At that time, Akino was surprised to see that Huo Yuanjia was inside the skin from the X-ray film. "There is a kind of membranous non-membranous, gaseous non-gaseous substance that exceeds ordinary people"; Later, it was discovered that Huo's "chest is wider than ordinary people, but his vital capacity is narrower than ordinary people"-this is the proof that Huo Yuanjia emphasized "strength" over "qi", which led to internal injuries in the future.

Since the problem of practicing foreign kungfu is so great, what about domestic kungfu? Most martial arts writers know the theory of luck at home, saying that "innate qi is invincible"; But few people can make it clear. However, Xiao Sheng is a "practitioner" and has a very thorough theory on the so-called childish power of the family. In the forty-eighth chapter of the original book, Qu Tielao, a family expert, "grabbed the bird's tail" and expressed the essence of "infinite innate strength" in a simple way through the dialogue between Qu Tielao and his disciple Wu Zhenchu.

First Qu Tie stretched himself, holding a sparrow in his hand. Wu zhen didn't get hurt when he first saw the sparrow. "squatting in the old palm of qu tie, as if to fly on airs; I saw that the veteran Qutie trembled slightly and the sparrow could not fly. " Then he carried the sparrow on his back. "I saw my back shaking slightly like his palm." Sparrows still can't fly.

Wu Zhenchu thought it was "magic", and Qu Tie always said it was "kung fu", which was different from the day after tomorrow. He pointed to the sparrow's palm way:

"Don't you think it always folds its wings and acts like it wants to fly? It can't just fly, its feet must be stretched by the acquired strength before its wings can spread. When its feet have no strength, my palm is under its feet. My palm is empty when it only exerts force. If the palm of your hand is empty, where should you focus? This borrowed small force is called the next day force. Why is it called the power of the future? Because it works hard first and then becomes strong, it is the acquired strength. This acquired power is endless, and it is impossible to practice to the extreme ... Only the innate' weakness' is infinite power. "

The description and analysis of this passage is quite accurate. Anyone with a discerning eye will know that the author is talking about the beauty of Tai Ji Chuan's "pushing hands". It involves "persistence power", "listening power", "understanding power" and "transformation power", so it is difficult for sparrows to fly with wings. And his theory of "congenital deficiency, acquired infinity" gives full play to the significance of Laozi's "nothing" as "being". It is the innate strength (qigong) that comes from practicing at home, and the acquired strength (martial arts) that comes from practicing at home. The former can be trained to the upper position, or it can be "as strong as steel" without sequelae. As mentioned earlier, Qin, a strange man in Xinglin, "can lick the edge of a teacup with his lips at will, just like cutting it with steel scissors" (see Chapter 53 of the original book). Really shocking! This is beyond the reach of foreign kung fu to "put glass in an iron cabinet" or "play hardball"; Only by practicing both inside and outside can we be both rigid and flexible, and we will not be complacent.

Although China's in-laws kung fu has its shortcomings, due to
