Blood culture is an artificial culture method in which fresh blood samples in vitro are inoculated on nutrient medium to make bacteria with high nutritional requirements grow and reproduce under certain conditions such as temperature and humidity, and then the pathogens are identified.
Blood culture collection process
Step 1: Hand hygiene.
Step 2: After opening the culture bottle stopper, disinfect the culture bottle stopper with alcohol and fully dry it.
Step 3: puncture the skin for disinfection.
Step 4: draw blood.
1, blood volume: adult 8- 10ml/ bottle. Children 3-5ml/ bottle.
2. Inject the blood directly into the blood culture bottle without changing the needle after the syringe draws blood.
Step 5: Mix well.
Gently invert and mix well to prevent blood coagulation, and do not shake violently.
Step 6: Collect the second set from another puncture point, as above.
Step 7: Send for inspection immediately. Store at room temperature, do not refrigerate or freeze.
hemoculture
Know why? Different ways of bacteremia are helpful to diagnose and explain the results of blood culture. Bacteremia usually comes from infections in the following parts, including urogenital tract (25%), respiratory tract (20%), abscess (10%), surgical wound (5%), biliary tract infection (5%), other known parts (10%) and unknown parts (25%).
Clinical diagnosis of blood culture
Blood culture is an important method for clinical diagnosis of sepsis, and positive results have important application value for definite diagnosis and symptomatic treatment. However, according to the literature, the positive rate of blood culture in China is only 17. 8% and 18.4%. In order to improve the positive rate of blood culture and objectively reflect the actual situation of pathogenic bacteria in blood of septicemia patients, clinicians accurately select blood culture, and the clinical laboratory carefully separates and identifies it.
