Phlegm heat depressed lung cough, rough breath, phlegm is not easy to cough up. The treatment is to clear away heat, suppress lung, resolve phlegm and relieve cough. Commonly used drugs are Scutellariae Radix, Gardenia Fructus, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Cortex Mori, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, Fructus Trichosanthis, bamboo juice, Rhizoma Pinelliae and Rhizoma Belamcandae. If the phlegm is thick, such as adding Houttuynia cordata, Fritillaria thunbergii, winter melon seeds and Coicis Semen, strengthen the effect of clearing heat and resolving phlegm. In addition, increase drinking water and dilute sputum. Ambroxol and acetylcysteine have expectorant, antioxidant and protective effects on bronchial and alveolar epithelial cells. According to different causes, it can be divided into phlegm-dampness cough, phlegm-heat cough, liver-fire cough and lung-yin cough.

(1) Exogenous cough

1, wind-cold cough (wind-cold attacking lung syndrome): loud cough, shortness of breath, itchy throat, thin and white sputum, often accompanied by cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, runny nose, headache, general aches and fever. It is common in acute upper respiratory infection caused by cold, that is, wind-cold cold.

Prescription 1: San 'ao Decoction

Source of prescription: Zhang Zhongjing's San 'ao Decoction, which was later included in Taiping Huimin Hejiju Prescription, Volume II.

Ingredients: Herba Ephedrae (without removing root nodes), almond (without peeling tips) and licorice (without baking).

Efficacy: dispersing lung and dispelling cold, used for closing lung due to wind-cold. It has antitussive, antiasthmatic, expectorant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and antiallergic effects, and is suitable for cough and allergic cough caused by common cold.

Prescription 2: Zhisou Powder

Comprises Radix Platycodi (parched), Herba Schizonepetae, Radix Asteris (steamed), Radix Stemonae (steamed) and Rhizoma Cynanchi Stauntonii (steamed); Licorice (fried); Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (washed with water to remove white).

Usage; * * * Grind into fine powder and mix with boiling water before going to bed after meals. If you feel cold for the first time, adjust it with ginger soup.

Efficacy: dispersing lung and expelling wind, relieving cough and resolving phlegm. It is used for patients with persistent or repeated cough such as upper respiratory tract infection, acute and chronic bronchitis and whooping cough.

2, wind-heat cough (wind-heat invading lung syndrome): frequent and severe cough, dry throat pain, sticky or yellow sputum, difficulty in coughing, yellow nose, thirst, headache, fatigue and other symptoms. It is more common in upper respiratory tract infection in summer, that is, wind-heat cold.

Prescription 3: Sangjuyin addition and subtraction

Ingredients: mulberry leaf, chrysanthemum, almond, forsythia suspensa, mint, platycodon grandiflorum, licorice, reed rhizome, fritillary bulb and loquat leaf.

Efficacy: Dispelling wind and clearing heat, dispersing lung and relieving cough. It has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, sweating, antibacterial and intestinal peristalsis inhibiting effects. It is used for patients with cough, sticky phlegm and dry throat, and is suitable for cough caused by wind-heat cold and acute pharyngitis in summer.

3. Wind-dry cough (wind-dry lung syndrome): dry cough, persistent choking cough, dry and itchy throat, sore throat, dry mouth and nose, no phlegm or less phlegm but sticky, and difficulty in expectoration. Common diseases such as cough syndrome, cough variant asthma, acute and chronic pharyngitis and acute bronchitis after upper respiratory tract infection.

Prescription 4: Modified Sangxing Decoction

Mulberry leaf, almond, Adenophora adenophora, Fritillaria, pear peel, burdock, peucedanum, crystal sugar.

Efficacy: dispelling wind and clearing heat, clearing lung and relieving cough. This prescription is often used for acute bronchitis, acute and chronic pharyngitis, and can be used instead of tea.

1. Phlegm-dampness cough (phlegm-dampness accumulating in lung syndrome): Cough recurs, with heavy and turbid cough sound and thick phlegm, and stops when phlegm is coughed up. Cough gets worse every morning or after meals, accompanied by chest tightness, anorexia, fatigue and other symptoms. Can be seen in chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthma and other diseases.

Prescription 5: Erchen decoction combined with Sanzi Yangqin decoction;

Efficacy: eliminating dampness and phlegm, regulating qi and relieving cough. Used for patients with cough with excessive phlegm, sticky phlegm, chest tightness and loss of appetite.

2, phlegm-heat cough (phlegm-heat stagnation of lung syndrome): cough, shortness of breath, shortness of breath, or sputum in the pharynx, phlegm is sticky or thick yellow, it is difficult to cough up phlegm, phlegm has a hot taste or hemoptysis, chest tightness, chest pain, red face, or body heat, dry mouth and sticky, thirsty, etc. Visible in lung abscess, pneumonia, bronchiectasis and other diseases.
