Yixing Xinyuan is an important producing area of purple sand.

The production of teapot should follow the Zhengde period of Ming Dynasty. Its raw material is purple sand, which is produced in Dingshu Town, Yixing, Jiangsu Province, also known as Yixing Zisha Pot. It is said that the founder of teapot is Gong Chun of Ming Dynasty in China, who was originally a servant of Yixing literati Wu Yishan. Because Wu Yishan was studying for the exam in Jinsha Temple, Gong Chun, an excellent boy, followed. In the temple, Gong Chun made the first "Gong Chun pot" in the Ming Dynasty with the monks using contemporary purple sand mud. In this way, the teapot was born in Yixing.
