According to legend, in the thirteenth year of Zhenguan, Princess Honghua married King Tuguhun of Qinghai, thus deepening the relationship between Datang and Qinghai. According to local historical records, when Princess Honghua lived in Wuwei, her hands and feet were dry and itchy because she didn't adapt to the cold and dry climate in Hexi, which attracted many local famous doctors. After diagnosis and treatment, it has no curative effect.
One day, Princess Honghua went out for a walk and met a farmer. The farmer told Princess Honghua that there is a divine spring in Xiying Village of Liangzhou, which gushes all the year round and is filled with fairy fog. Many local herders often bathe in the spring to cure diseases and preserve health, which is called "Shenquan" by the locals.
When Princess Honghua heard this, she immediately sent her entourage to fetch water from Shenquan and scrub her body with hot spring water. Three days later, Princess Honghua was radiant and her skin disease disappeared. The princess was overjoyed, so she named this spring as "The Divine Spring of the King of Medicine" and established the Temple of the King of Medicine to show her gratitude to God.
