Because of the great differences in language and culture and the long distance, Dongtai has a high voice for independence.

In terms of standardized address, counties and county-level cities can directly address "Dongtai City, Jiangsu Province" or "Hai 'an County, Jiangsu Province" without having to address the unfamiliar "Dongtai City, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province".

As the only county-level medium-sized city north of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu, it is one of the 20 central cities in Jiangsu and the largest county in Jiangsu.

Dongtai City is a county-level city managed by Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Dongtai is one of the excellent tourist cities in China. "In the crisp autumn, I can only hear the crane whistling, and I can see every pearl in the hazy night sea." The poet Fan Zhongyan used this poem to describe the seaside scenery of Dongtai.
