The prescription of Liuwei Dihuang Pill consists of Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, Cornus officinalis, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Poria, Cortex Moutan and Alismatis Rhizoma. Qian Yi found that the prescription of Bawei Pill by medical sage Zhang Zhongjing was exquisite, especially for tonifying kidney, so it was used to treat children's congenital deficiency and other "five stagnation" symptoms, but the halogen door was not closed for a long time. Qian Yi was afraid that cinnamon and aconite would burn if eaten, so he took them off. It became Liuwei Dihuang Pill. The first three of these six flavors are nourishing drugs, nourishing the liver, spleen, lung and kidney, and the last three flavors are purging the heart, spleen and kidney, which are effective in treating children's "five stagnation", so Liuwei Dihuang Pill is famous far and wide.

In modern times, Zhang Zhongjing's Bawei Pill is called Guifu Dihuang Pill. Because cinnamon and aconite root tonify yang, the fire will return to Yuan, so Guifu Dihuang Pill mainly tonifies yang, and is mainly used to treat soreness of waist and knees, edema of limbs and dysuria caused by deficiency of kidney yang. Later, the doctor added Anemarrhena asphodeloides and Phellodendron amurense to Liuwei Dihuang Pill to clear away heat and reduce fire, and became a white Dihuang Pill. Indications: hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency, tinnitus and nocturnal emission, short and red urine, etc.
