In ancient Buddhist scriptures, there was such a son as the following. He said that impermanence is the law of birth and death, birth and death destroy oneself, and silence is joy. Although this sentence is short, it has profound meaning. According to the legend of Buddhism, many disciples of the Buddha, at the moment they heard such a son, or such a son, at least proved their innocence and at least got their first fruits. It shows that this kind of sentence contains the key to Buddhist practice. Especially in the part where the lines are destroyed and the silence is fun, what does it mean that the lines are destroyed? For the average person, this sounds like a kind of terror or extreme world-weariness, which is not easy to understand.
To understand the meaning of such a son, we should first introduce ancient India, its religious and cultural background. In the Buddha's time, even before the Buddha, there were many so-called Samoan groups in India. What this shaman group means is that they have abandoned the mainstream and common secular lifestyle, and they are either living in isolation or in a small spiritual group, in such an environment, to explore what they think is higher life value. There are more meaningful tasks than starting a family, filial piety to adoptive parents, pursuit of fame and fortune, and carrying on the family line. Such a task, from a perspective, you can say that it is a task to save the soul.
Although these ancient schools of meditation have different ideas on some details, they have one thing in common. The connection between * * * is that they all have such an intuition when they bring their hearts out from the outside and look inward to pursue the so-called more fundamental and core things in life. That intuition is our soul now. It is trapped. It is in a confused and difficult state, a bit like being trapped in a trap, and intuitively knows that this is wrong. By wrong, I mean more than just that I don't have enough money. The person I like doesn't respond to the feeling that I like him, not only at this level, but also at a deeper level. Our living conditions, our rotation and the essence of our life seem to be sick in some basic places and wrong in some basic places. I think this can be improved. I think I should pray for a higher liberation and more important freedom. Such a person can be said to be yearning or expectation.
These ancient Hindu sects, such as Hinduism, for example, later evolved into orthodox sects, and yoga is such a sect. They all realize that this so-called soul is trapped in the phenomenal world. Try to make your soul have the ability to get rid of the bondage and trouble of this phenomenon. Next, the difference between these different factions is how to get rid of them. The same place is that they all realize that the soul needs to be saved, but the real answer is that there is no way to get the answer in the pursuit of these ordinary people in the phenomenal world. The difference is, specifically, what can we do to free our souls from the shackles of this phenomenon.
You should understand that under the background of a religion like ancient India, the Buddha's actions are impermanent. Otherwise, it's easy to read the text and get it right, and it's also easy to misinterpret it. The Buddha's position on this "various actions", at least in the following part, is the same as that of most Zen sects. The idea is, let's see what kind of power is binding our souls. Before you learn to get rid of these binding forces, you must first recognize which forces are binding you. These forces are strong and weak. What do you mean by strong and weak? We use the following metaphor to illustrate.
Suppose a person has been pursuing fame and fortune for most of his life and spent a lot of time running his own business. Then he unconsciously spent a lot of time in a state of hard work and toil, and then suddenly one day, after having a midnight dream, he began to reflect: "Is it worth it?" Approaching retirement age, my health is getting worse and worse. Although I have accumulated these wealth, I am famous outside. However, it seems that I really don't enjoy it that much. For example, I can spend very little time with my family, and I don't have more leisure time to enjoy family happiness just because I am rich and famous. When this person is doing such introspection, when this person is doing such value discrimination, his personal conclusion is that external things are not so important, and I want to spend more time with my family. Precious time with my family is quality time, which is more real and valuable than I have accumulated more wealth and been recognized by more people outside. So this man, what is he doing? This man is exploring some values that he thinks are more core. At least to some extent, take your heart back from the outside,
He began to reflect on "Heart" when it was released (meaning to pursue fame and gain outside). That kind of feeling is not as cold and dull as being with family. Although bland, it is indeed a more meaningful taste. Let's talk about this as the first step: from the outside to the inside.
Then, a person who enjoys family happiness with his family, if he has enough observation, his wisdom is high enough. Then, he may reflect further in the near future, and he will find that I have actually paid so much for my family. I have spent most of my life thinking about my family, working for my children, paying for my spouse, paying for my parents, and so on. These feelings are still nothing more real than taking care of yourself. I really shouldn't be so blind and simple, just living for others and my family. I should think about myself. I want to protect my body and mind and cultivate myself. When this person does such thinking and introspection, he is introspecting a core value. He is determining what is more important and valuable to him. Let's describe what he did when he went a step further and brought foreign hearts a little bit.
In other words, it is a step compared with pursuing fame and fortune and living a plain and happy life with my family.
Then now, further, he said that I should not only worry about my family, but also take care of this body and mind, which is a further step. Then, at every step, he dived into the sea like a man. The deeper he dives, the less waves he feels and the less storms he feels. The closer to the seaside, when the typhoon happens to be on the sea, the more severe the impact on itself, the choppy and intense. The deeper you swim into the sea, you will find that the turbulence around the sea is getting weaker and weaker, and the power of the sea is getting softer and softer.
Then this person, further, thought, "Well, I want to take care of my self-awareness, so is my self-awareness my soul?" Remember, ancient religions are exploring. If I want to save my soul, you must first know what your soul is. If you mistake what is not your soul for your soul, then try to save it. For example, you mistake your career for the soul and fame and fortune for a part of the soul. Then you may, you will use your power wrongly. If you regard fame and fortune as your soul, then you focus on the incorrect part of the turbulent waves, then your heart can't be truly peaceful and your true soul can't be released.
So this man, he goes further, he examines his body and mind. Which part of the body and mind is closer to his soul? He will probably find that his body is heavy and old, no matter how much I care about health, no matter how much effort I make in health, diet, exercise, etc ... there is no way to completely stop my aging, such a destination. So, he began to take his heart more inward from the body, away from the feeling of physical sustenance, and explore inside.
Which part of the mind is the soul? He will find his heart and feel that this part should not be regarded as a soul. Because this feeling is ups and downs, our emotions, it is so impermanent, it is so conditional. If you take your feelings as your soul, then you will almost certainly be manipulated and manipulated by this impermanent feeling, which is turbulent. So this person, he goes further and thinks like that, right? So our idea is. So this imagination of ours? Lenovo function? Memory? One by one, one by one,
One by one will constantly reflect and review its actual value and reliability. Finally, he decided that these were not my real souls.
So, does consciousness count? The function of consciousness and perception. This person, he may also find that even the function of consciousness and perception, our perception is restricted by his greed and his likes and dislikes. So to a good extent, realize that it is not your choice, but your inner hunger that determines the direction of your attention. So even consciousness is not a reliable thing in essence. Then, this consciousness, it will fall asleep with you and disappear with you, as if it were not your soul. Therefore, in such a religious environment, the Buddha has almost made similar thinking and similar value choices. His final conclusion is, which part of the inner world is real? The so-called truth is that it can provide you with peace, it can provide you with a calm that is not turbulent, and then such peace will not be turbulent because of the changes in these non-soul parts and these external parts, as well as its turmoil. What is this part? The Buddha's answer is: all "lines" are not.
What do you mean, yes? This is a heartfelt feeling. These actions include all your thoughts, including all your will, including all your connections to all phenomena and all fields, modes of participation, and actions. It seems that when I see a beautiful realm, I want to say that I want to enter it; Seeing a horrible realm, I want to escape; For a beautiful vision, a beautiful future image, there will be some actions in my heart, such as looking forward to it, trying to run through it, trying to be it, trying to rely on it, trying to draw happiness from it, and so on. It's called OK.
Then, our people's observation can only go so far. What else is under the line? First, you can't see. Then the second point, although your observation can only see the line level, it is enough. Why? Because you find all the stress, all the anxiety, all the anxiety, all the fears, all the hard experiences. It all happens at the level of "doing", and it's all about how you deal with the realm, and what kind of relationship has been formed between your heart and the realm. Through this kind of effort, this painful experience has been produced.
So according to the Buddha's inference, his conclusion is: you can't take "doing" as your soul.
You can't regard "line" as the meaning of human soul, that is, you don't regard "line" as yourself, as your core value, or as a kind of sustenance. You can take it for granted that you can move around in "line" and then feel that you are nothing, very safe, and life is the way it should be. If you are indifferent to the "line", you are not alert to this "line" and you trust this "line" with peace of mind. Then, this can be said to be a state of ignorance and pain. There must be a reason for the future.
So, about this part, we just mentioned the ancient son of Buddhist scriptures. He described the impermanence of various lines as the law of birth and death, his own birth and death, and the joy of silence. We already know that the Buddha said that the line is impermanent. From what he just said, we can clearly know that the line is impermanent, whether it is life or death. So this part, this sub, is relatively easy to understand. In the next chapter, he talked about life and death, and silence is fun, which means that if the line of life and death and this phenomenon are eliminated, then we can receive the happiness of nirvana and silence.
The question is coming? How to be silent? How can we be silent? How can we live and die? No matter how hard we try, it is almost doomed that you will experience the birth and death of various behaviors when you are still alive. Even the arhat, even the Buddha, we can infer that they are also experiencing the birth and death of "behavior" to a good extent. Buddha has to experience back pain, the birth and death of back pain, and Buddha has to experience his own motives. He is born, sick and dead, and when he is hungry, he will eat. He has a wish to establish a more sound monk group, such a wish, such a wish. He hopes that Buddhism can exist in the world for a long time, and he hopes that more people can taste the joy of liberation by perfecting teaching skills. So obviously, at least to this extent, the Buddha is also experiencing the birth and death of "walking".
So, what exactly does set extinction mean? What does it mean to be born, sick and dead? We can look at another Buddhist sutra, which contains an almost identical poem, but this poem is a little longer, which provides us with more information. This son is as follows: all actions are impermanent, and life must die. If you don't cling to life and death, you will live happily when you are silent. The eldest son is impermanent, and the second son is impermanent. The first is the law of life and death, the second is the law of life and death. The first two sentences are almost identical. Next, the key lies in the third sentence. The first sentence of the third sentence says that it is called birth and death, and then the second sentence says that it is not persistent, so what does this mean? What the hell happened? What goes out is persistence. What goes out is not a physiological phenomenon, but an objective willpower, its birth and death. It is your heart, it goes out for the will that is happening, the hint in the middle. When this key is reached, you can experience the extinction of Nirvana.
What the hell does this mean? Let's use the following metaphor to illustrate the dream we mentioned in the last lecture. I think most people have had this experience. You had two different dreams.
There is a dream, its dream is obvious, it triggers a button in our heart, and it starts some kind of trouble, some kind of sleep in my heart. So, when we were in that dream, we felt sad, scared and ecstatic. That is to say, in that dream, you are experiencing worldly desires, and in that dream, you feel like riding a roller coaster. That kind of mood has ups and downs, and there are gains and losses. Therefore, in an ordinary dream, what you see is also a beautiful scenery. You may be in your first dream. When you look at this scenery, you will feel sad and worried. This is like the scenery of my hometown, and then you will feel homesick, missing and longing in your heart. In the second case, you may simply appreciate the beautiful scenery, and even the scenery can't fluctuate any heartstrings in your heart. Your heart feels no ripples because of the scenery. In your mind, no button is triggered, and no trouble is activated. So this second dream can be said to be purely subconscious, emitting and projecting neutral images.
In fact, whether we are awake or asleep, we constantly project different images in our conscious field. When these images are touched by one of your troubles, you will have a cold reaction to this image and an emotional reaction to this image, and then let this originally neutral image evolve into a complex story. Then this complicated story will make your heart feel the ups and downs, and then experience the worldly desires, gains and losses, and the ups and downs of that kind of trouble again.
So the meaning to be expressed here is that the line mentioned by the Buddha is gone. The most important thing is that the part you are connected with dreams and mistakes, the troubled part and the persistent part are all extinguished. If that part is gone, will you continue to dream? First of all, if you are still alive, you may have some kind of neutral dream. But this neutral dream, it does not constitute karma. You have to know that spreading Buddhism to the countries with seats in the south. They have a legend that arhat doesn't do anything. Arhat doesn't make karma, which means that Arhat not only doesn't make bad karma, but also doesn't make good karma. What does this mean? It is generally believed that it is good to create good karma without creating evil karma. In fact, creating good karma and evil karma means that you are reflecting on that realm, gaining and losing, and taking something. Some of your responses are clever and some are not. Clever reaction mode can make your mind construct a relatively comfortable, happy, comfortable, cheerful and wanton state, which we call good karma. Unskilled correspondence will create relative confusion, confusion, sinking, pain, burning, etc ... This situation comes out, and what we are talking about is called bad karma. Arhat didn't make any annoying response to the neutral image projected from his heart in his dream. He won't connect emotions, nor will he copy those pictures into complex storylines. So to that extent, arhat is not a business.
Then, if you don't make a career, such relief and better dreams won't happen. Even if it is a dream that continues to generate, first of all, its content becomes thin and simple. Then, in fact, most of us, the images projected from our hearts are not neutral images. Most of the projected images are actually because you have some kind of worry, because you have some kind of anxiety, and you have some kind of hunger and thirst, so you constantly throw these influences out of your subconscious. As an arhat, you can become a dreamer to some extent. You don't dream. But not dreaming here doesn't mean not dreaming 100%. No dreams here means that you won't have those dreams that are caused by troubles. It means this.
Let's take another look. There are the following explanations in Buddhist scriptures, which have caused many people's confusion. That explanation is "life is life, and death is death." What does this sentence mean? In fact, what is expressed here is the artistic conception of Arhat's doing nothing. Arhat doesn't work, although his "line" continues to move, as long as he is alive, the line continues, although his obsession with the "line" has been eliminated. But the lines that are still active now are very special lines, and they are very few. What line is this? From one point of view, this line is simply related to the joys and sorrows of the body. What does this mean? This means that an arhat will have the same urgency to urinate, the same motivation to go to the toilet, the same motivation to eat, the same motivation to drink water, the same motivation to avoid being disturbed by flies and mosquitoes, or take some objective measures to reduce this interference. Because of the hot weather, he may choose to move to a cool place. He may be cold, so he chooses to enter a warmer state.
When our hearts no longer collide with those neutral dreams, then the only dream left is the actions you have to do in this world while we are still alive. These actions to get rid of suffering and enjoy happiness include that the people around you are in distress and the people around you are in pain. You can do your best to help him. Including that we study Buddhism, you can try your best to live, protect and spread Buddhism. Pass it on to the next generation, so that more people can get the same truth of getting rid of pain and happiness. So the pain caused by this first arrow is unavoidable, but arhat can at least do it, the physical troubles caused by these first arrows, the troubles of the objective environment, the interference and the pain. He can do it. "This bitterness is born, and it will die if it is destroyed." It means that he only has simple suffering related to the body of the first arrow, and it will die in it. Although there is an action to take it, reduce it, adjust it and control it. But these behaviors are caused by hunger and thirst, not by the baptism of trouble. So, although you are still dealing with the action of the first arrow and the line of the first arrow, this way of dealing with it is not evil. This is the internal logic of the line being extinguished.
Our personal meditation has a very simple method, and we can experience this path of Buddhism in a deeper way. The way is that you can try to understand and feel what is ok. Well, how turbulent. One way to feel it is to understand all lines as waves on the water. You can directly feel your heart now, and you can feel your state of mind now. In this state of mind, you may be better. To a certain extent, you may find that there may be ripples, waves and even rough waves on it. That ripple, that wave, its specific feeling is swaying, and its specific feeling is turbulence and collision. Such a collision, such a shaking, it is creating pressure to a certain extent. And then you.
Take a look. What's your relationship with these activities now? There is a connection, the delusion that keeps popping up in your heart is like a bubble; Those blind motives are like bubbles and waves. You can't help but keep entering. You were kidnapped by those bubbles and waves. You're in it, spinning with them.
Or, you can try to be vigilant, try to be detached and try not to go with the flow. Deliberately face the current turmoil with a distant and such gesture. When you are making such a distant gesture, you can either understand the meaning of turmoil more deeply in relative calm and relative transcendence. All the lines are not.
Those things in your soul, it is uneasy, don't believe it, don't trust it, don't be in it.
The edge becomes comfortable, don't pin your heart on it. Don't be silly. You got in without being awake or alert.
On the other hand, you can simply keep yourself away and do it more thoroughly. So the more you
You're getting less and less involved in that storm, less and less negotiating with him, and less and less involved. You can make that turbulent line, where there is turmoil, this bitter life will be born, and it will be destroyed. Then, instead of participating, you are slowly practicing weakening, which restricts the inertia of your participation.
A person who has experienced spiritual liberation, not only all the lines are disconnected, but also a large number of lines, even neutral lines, will go out with them. Because such a person, he has no anxiety in his heart, he has no hunger and thirst, so it seems that the seeds of the bottom industry are getting harder and harder to push out. As time goes on, more and more neutral lines are started occasionally.
I am less and less interested in it, it will not happen more and more, and it will happen less and less frequently. Therefore, people like this, in the urgent situation without physiological phenomena, in the things that need his care without objective environment, are very easy to experience layers of empty liberation and high silence in the ethereal situation. Even if there are accidental, neutral and internally projected images, he will not be confused by these images.
