Main contribution

Chen Manhua's academic research fields are grammar theory, Chinese grammar and language history, as well as dialectology, lexicology and rhetoric, Chinese-English comparison and translation. More than 60 papers and academic summaries have been published in nearly 30 academic journals (including academic columns of other academic journals), most of which are published in core journals of linguistics, and quite a few are published in authoritative core journals of domestic linguistics such as China Language, Journal of Chinese Language, Foreign Language Teaching and Research, Contemporary Linguistics and Foreign Languages. Three monographs have been published, one of which has been reprinted. He has taught or visited India, Britain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States and other countries for a long time, and conducted academic exchanges. In recent years, he has been invited to give academic lectures at universities such as Vienna University, Sichuan University, Tongji University, Hunan Normal University and PLA Foreign Languages Institute.

Over the years, Chen Manhua has made great efforts in the following two aspects: First, cognitive linguistics, specializing in the theory and application of construction grammar, and published more than 10 papers in this field, reaching more than 654.38+10,000 words, which has great influence and has been listed as one of the representative scholars in the theoretical research of construction grammar in China. Second, the history of early historical comparative linguistics, focusing on the founder of historical comparative linguistics and the master of Orientalism, SirWilliamJones and related topics, and published a series of achievements in this field, nearly 6,543.8+10,000 words, and completed and passed the key projects of the Philosophy and Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education, which focused on Jones' linguistics and Orientalism, and formed a monograph (draft).

Professor Chen Manhua follows the view of linguists such as Wang Li and others that "the dragon carves a small worm". At the same time, due to his normal background and teaching experience in north and south middle schools, he has a personal understanding of the needs of Chinese education at the grassroots level. Therefore, he advocated that academic research should be grounded, get out of the ivory tower, pay attention to the combination with popularization work, pay attention to social needs, and personally publish a large number of popular articles on linguistics and language application. Nearly half of them were published in Speech and Eloquence, with a circulation of one million copies and wide influence. In the first half of 1990s, they were listed as one of the core authors of the magazine and followed the manuscript for a long time. They have been rated as excellent authors of magazines and won prizes.

In addition to academic research, Chen Manhua has published dozens of papers, among which cultural academic papers account for a large proportion, involving social, language, culture, education and academic norms. , scattered in People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Beijing Daily, China Social Sciences News, China Reading News, Social Sciences Forum and other newspapers and well-known websites (2060 Chen Manhua's essays, essays, although there is no deliberate choice in theme and content, but in addition to telling people around them and ordinary things, they pay more attention to the figures and trends of the academic and intellectual circles, pay attention to humanity and humanity, and have obvious scholar prose (cultural prose) and culture (academic). Representative narrative essays include Mother's Horn, In Memory of Mr. Zhao Shikai, In Memory of Professor Hu, American War Memorial to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, etc. Academic (cultural) essays such as Master Style, Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Notes on Citing Academic Works, and Harvest.
