Introduction to attractions of Yeshan Lecture Hall:
At the foot of Yehoushan Mountain on the west side of Jiangdong Bridge in Longhai City, there is an elegant and quiet ancient building with a back mountain and a river, named Yeshan Lecture Hall. Huang Daozhou, a famous scholar in the late Ming Dynasty, gave a lecture.
Huang Daozhou (1585 1646), a native of Tongshan, Zhangpu County in Ming Dynasty, was called Shizhai. In the second year of the Apocalypse (1622), he was the official of the royal banquet and then the remonstrating official. He was honest, dared to contradict the emperor on the issue of right and wrong, and was demoted and severely punished by the imperial aides many times. In the fifteenth year of Chongzhen (1642), he was demoted to Guangxi, pardoned and reinstated, and died of illness. The following year, the Yeshan Lecture Hall was built in the foothills of Yehoushan Mountain in Longxi, with three halls, namely, Sanjin, Joy and Kindness. Huang's lectures are not just empty talk about what nature is and what people want, but focus on people's patriotic practice. His aim is to be strict with self-discipline, selfless, and take the banyan tree as an example of life. And decided to "wild mountain lecture notes" seven articles, as the moral standard of learning.
Literati and men of letters from all directions came to the wild back mountain to seek scholars, and stopped boats along the river in an endless stream, thousands of them, which was very popular. In the seventeenth year of Chongzhen (1644), under the heavy blow of the peasant army led by Li Zicheng, Yanjing fell and Chongzhen hanged himself. Huang Daozhou led his disciples to wail for three days. Soon, the Qing soldiers entered the customs and established the Qing regime in Yanjing. Nanjing officials took Zhu Yousong, the axe king, as emperor, and went to Daozhou Zhao Hang as the minister of rites, assisting in the struggle against Qing Dynasty and regaining sight. In June of the following year, Zhu, king of the Tang Dynasty, ascended the throne in Fuzhou, which was the first year of Longwu (1645). Daozhou was named a university student of Wuyingtang and a second minister of officers and men. He was forced by the situation to recruit soldiers to resist the Qing army. Later, due to the lack of reinforcements and military pay, he was defeated in Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province and was sent to Nanjing. He went on hunger strike several times against the Qing court and refused to surrender. On March 5, 2002, he died heroically in Nanjing Donghuamen. Last words before execution: never die, never look back for a thousand years, heaven and earth know me, and there is no concern at home.
Cao Jie, eternal glory. After Huang Daozhou's martyrdom, the lecture hall in Yeshan became increasingly deserted, and there are still many cliff carvings. That's the Penglai Gorge inscribed by Huang Daozhou, the Furong Gorge, the river carved in stone by Xiu Yuan Xi, Mo Chi and Liu County. In addition, there are Huangyan Cave carved by Huang Kuan, Dezhu, Guanfeng and Banana Leaves carved by Huang Kerun.
