" Yang Wangsun replied: "I heard that the wise monarch in ancient times, because he realized that people could not bear to see their loved ones die, specially formulated some burial ceremonies after death. Now people's practices have gone far beyond these rituals. The reason why I was buried naked was to correct bad social customs. Thick burial is really bad for the dead, but secular people actually raise their standards, spend all their money and let it rot underground. Some are even buried today and dug up tomorrow. What's the difference between this and exposing a body in the wilderness? Besides, the death of a person is the last change that ends life, and it is also the return of matter to its place. What should go back to where it should be, should be changed to the point of strain, that is, go back to the original place. Showing luxury to everyone with luxurious decoration, and isolating the place that should have returned with thick burial will make the place that should have returned not go where it should have gone, and the change will naturally remain unchanged, which will make everything lose its true colors. Therefore, the wise monarch allows the living to get good health conditions and the dead to get proper burial. Don't work hard in areas of no practical value, and don't waste financial resources in meaningless places.
