Qixia Mountain, also known as Sheshan, is located in Qixia Town, about 22 kilometers northeast of Nanjing city center, and is named after the qixia temple built in the mountain. Qixia Mountain has three peaks, the main peak is 3 13 meters above sea level. There are many historical sites such as qixia temple and stupa, as well as natural wonders such as Qingfengjian, Tiankaiyan and Yixiantian.
The origin of the name
Qixia is not the first name of this mountain. According to legend, in ancient times, the mountain was rich in wild ginseng, angelica, Polygonum Multiflori Radix, Poria, licorice and other Chinese herbal medicines, which had the effect of nourishing the body (that is, preserving health), hence the name "taking the mountain".
Qixia Mountain was unknown at first. Since the Southern Dynasties, Qixia Mountain is famous for its temples and has become a Buddhist shrine in China. During the Southern Qi Dynasty, people in the plain knew monk Shao and gave his house "Qixia Jingshe" to Fadu Zen Master, who converted it into a temple and named it "qixia temple". Sheshan is also named after the temple "Qixia Mountain".
