Most township names are related to the village where the town is located, and Jiaolong Town is no exception. Its residence is in Jiaolongwang Village (later divided into three administrative villages: Jiaolongqian Street, Jiaolongzhong Street and Jiaolonghou Street). The name Xiaolong mainly comes from this.
According to the records of the village, there is a Longtu Dam one kilometer west of Jiaolongwang Village, and there is a river west of the dam. Historically, after years of erosion, a huge pool has gradually formed here. Because it looks like a dragon from a distance, its ancestors called it Wolong Lake, or Longtan for short.
In the Ming Dynasty, Deng, Bai, Hu and other surnames moved here to build a village and release Longtan, which was called Jiaolong Bay and later evolved into the King of Jiaolong.
The ancients called it Longtan, and later Longtan Reservoir was built. According to the records of Linshu County, Longtan Reservoir is located in the west of Houjiaolong Village in Jiaolong Town. It was built in the winter of 1958, designed by junan county water conservancy headquarters (at that time, Jiaolong district was subordinate to junan county), constructed in Jiaolong district, and completed in 1959. At that time, the total storage capacity was 2.45 million cubic meters, which was the first small reservoir in the county. It is worth mentioning that the diversion canal built by Longtan Reservoir is also called the main canal of Longwo Irrigation District.
Jiaolong was originally an ordinary village, but the terrain was flat and the transportation was convenient. It gradually developed into a distribution center for goods around the second or seventh day of the lunar calendar.
Before the Anti-Japanese War, Linyi County was under the jurisdiction of the fifth district. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, Linshu County was established and became the Jiaolong District of Linshu County. This is also the name of Jiaolong as a branch above the village level.
