Theory is the guide of action, and thought is the forerunner of action. The more thorough the theory, the more correct the understanding, the higher the consciousness of self-cultivation, and the less blindness in self-cultivation practice, so that we can find wrong tendencies in time, avoid detours and avoid setbacks. Self-cultivation should follow the direction of "having ideals, morality, education and discipline" We must seriously study the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought, master the basic viewpoints of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, deeply understand the objective laws of social development, and establish a correct outlook on life and the world. We must seriously study the party's documents and the party's line, principles and policies, especially the current general principles and policies of reform and opening up. We must seriously study the compulsory and elective ideological education courses (that is, moral education courses). We should also seriously study ethics, psychology, talents, sociology, modern management and other knowledge related to ideological and moral cultivation. Only by being firm in theory can we be firm in action, and we will not drift with the tide.

(two) actively participate in social practice, the second classroom activities.

A person's ideological and moral status is mainly tested through social practice. As the saying goes, "Listen to his words and watch his actions", and this "action" is social practice. Social practice is not only the source of wisdom, but also the source of morality. By participating in social practice activities, contemporary college students can understand the national conditions and rural conditions, hear and witness the new atmosphere and many new problems of reform and opening up, which not only stimulates the ambition of rejuvenating China and building the four modernizations, but also sees the uneven road ahead of reform and opening up and the gap between education and the development of the situation. Usually, many activities of college students at school, including the second classroom activities, contain the content of ideological and moral education, which is also an important way of ideological and moral cultivation. For example, take the posts of Party, Youth League, Student Union, Department and Class cadres, work and practice, and participate in various beneficial activities organized by collective organizations, such as visits, social surveys, educational practices, special reports, seminars, listening to tapes, watching videos, movies, conducting book reviews, film reviews, entertainment and sports competitions, etc. Every student's participation in these activities not only fully demonstrates his talent, but also demonstrates his ideological and moral character. He can get everyone's comments on his own ideology and morality from his classmates' comments, learn from others' excellent qualities, and thus promote his own ideological and moral cultivation. Marx once said: "People come to the world without a mirror, unlike Fichte's philosopher who said that I am me, so people first reflect themselves through others." (Note on page 67 of Volume 23 of the Complete Works of Marx and Engels) shows that people should find themselves, know themselves and evaluate themselves from the process of knowing others, just like looking in the mirror. In particular, a healthy collective has a greater impact on cultivating a person's good ideology and morality. Only in practice can we find the combination of the learned theory and social needs, and build a multi-level overpass between book knowledge and reality. Only in this way can we understand the society, enrich our thoughts, strengthen our beliefs and cultivate our moral character.

The purpose of ideological and moral cultivation is to learn how to be a man and cultivate noble sentiments. College students are in the formative period of their outlook on life and world. Learning advanced figures can not only learn from history, but also draw noble qualities from a large number of heroes emerging in reality, and pay more attention to learning the essence of advanced models around us. Ideological and moral cultivation must integrate theory with practice. Advantages, disadvantages, strengths and weaknesses exist objectively for a person. "Cautious independence" comes from the golden mean, and the original words are: "Don't be obscure, don't be obscure. Therefore, the gentleman is cautious and independent. " It means that a gentleman is always cautious when others can't see and wary when others can't hear him. The most hidden things can best show people's quality, and the smallest things can best show people's soul. Therefore, when a gentleman is alone and unsupervised, he is always very cautious and does not do immoral things. The spirit of "cautious independence" is valuable from the aspects of preventing minors from delaying and cultivating the spirit of conscious self-transformation, and it is the embodiment of a higher realm of ideological and moral cultivation.
