When was Taoism founded?
Eastern Han Ming emperor period

Taoism originated from immortal alchemists in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.

By the time of East Zhou Pingwang, the original feudal political concept had changed, and the vassals gradually competed for hegemony. The trend of the times urges intellectuals to be uninhibited, resulting in new changes in cultural thoughts and leading to the division of traditional orthodoxy. So a hundred schools of thought contend, and some rely on academic thoughts to lobby governors to gain leadership and power; Some students are apprentices by teaching, which influences the society and creates an atmosphere. Therefore, the atmosphere of academic freedom has been formed for three or four hundred years from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the early years of Qin and Han Dynasties. Among them, the most famous are: representatives praised by later generations, and writers, such as Laozi, Liezi, Zhuangzi and Yang Zhu. The so-called representatives of Confucianism, Confucius, Zeng Shen, Zi Si, Mencius and Xun Zi, all have their own writings. He is like a Mohist school centered on Mo Zhai; Military strategists represented by Sun Tzu and Wu Qi; Yin-yang family represented by Yan Yan and his ilk; Legalists represented by Shen Buhai, Han Fei and others; Famous artists represented by Hui Shi and Gong Sunlong; Guiguzi, such as Su Qin and Zhang Yi, are good at vertical and horizontal alignment and the length of hook distance, and they can also be unique and called strategists; Even agriculture, industry, commerce, learning, essays, etc. , but also famous for his expertise theory. Just like modern academic disciplines, you can specialize in one subject and get a doctor who is similar to a famous scholar. In fact, the contention of a hundred schools of thought during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period is actually a consistent branch of Taoism in the ancient traditional culture of China. Sima Qian wrote Historical Records, claiming that Taishigong's thoughts are mainly Taoist, which should refer to Taoism in traditional culture, but only Taoist thoughts represented by Laozi. The most obvious evidence ignored by later generations can be seen from the style of Historical Records he wrote. In fact, Taoism and Taoism in later generations combined the cultural thoughts of ancient times and three generations, and integrated Taoism, Mohism, Yin and Yang, military strategist, miscellaneous family, medicine and Ji Fang into a religion different from traditional Taoism, which is quite similar to Sima Qian's worship of traditional Taoism.

In the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Taoism, which has always been consistent in tradition, has evolved into a situation in which different teachers see each other and set up their own portals. From then on, it was unique and developed in the atmosphere of academic masters. Outside the school that talks about theory, its researchers specialize in astronomy, geography, medicine, health care and so on. All of them are outside the hundred schools, meeting with various schools and forming their own schools. But in ancient times, they were all despised and called "Ji Fang's men" when they ignored the technical concept of natural science. This kind of square geisha is actually the origin of the immortal thought of later generations and the essence of the later Taoist central thought. One, who is famous for China's generation of primitive scientists, thinks that a person can become immortal by various cultivation methods, and eventually live with the world, the sun and the moon. These thoughts were widely popular in the ruling and opposition parties of Beiyan and Qi State. For example, Qi Weiwang Xuan and Yan Zhaowang were both influenced by this theory, which made people go to the sea to seek the three saints of Penglai, the abbot and Yingzhou. These are the early immortal facts that can be traced back to history. Some people, like Qi people, study astronomy with the theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements, arguing that there are nine continents in the sea, which is regarded as pedantic. There are also Yan people who worship the door, and the Lord cultivates this stone by alchemy, which makes it immortal, so that the form can be compared with ghosts and geisha, which is not accepted by the society at that time. Therefore, few Yan and Qi scholars can pass on their skills. It is a fact that researchers engaged in science in the early days will be laughed at and despised by the world, as well as at all times and in all countries. At that time, the popular metaphysical thoughts in the south, such as Liezi and Zhuangzi's theory that the personality of God man, real person and immortal was sublimated into deification, had been influenced by the alchemist's immortal thought. But in the northern alchemist Taoism, Dan medicine is more important for health preservation; However, Taoism in the south focuses on spiritual detachment and health and fitness; As for the immortal alchemy, it was after Qin and Han Dynasties. Therefore, if it is inferred that the study of Taoist immortals and alchemists gradually evolved into the embryonic form of Taoism in later generations, the middle period of Zhou Dynasty should be a reasonable starting period.
