American ginseng has 5 palmately compound leaves, usually 3-4, which are spiral at the stem end.

Petiole length: 5 ~ 7 cm.

Leaflet membrane is 4 ~ 9 cm long and 2.5 ~ 5 cm wide, with sharp apex, coarse serrated edge and wedge-shaped base, and the lowest two leaflets are the smallest;

The petiole is about 1.5cm long, and the two petioles at the bottom are short or nearly sessile.
