What is the Special Olympics?

There are about 65438+700 million people with mental retardation in the world, accounting for about 3% of the total human population. Special Olympics is to provide daily Olympic training and competition opportunities for mentally retarded children and adults over eight years old, tap their potential, enhance their physical fitness, develop their skills, make them show their courage, and share happiness, exchange skills and enhance friendship with other athletes and their families during the participation. Through sports, people with mental retardation are provided with equal opportunities to participate in and help them integrate into society, thus improving their lives, their families and their communities. Special Olympics is a mass experience full of vitality, health, skills and happiness.

At present, there are 2.25 million Special Olympics athletes in the world.

What are the scale and events of the 2007 World Special Olympics?

The 2007 World Special Olympics will be held in Shanghai, China. This is the first time that the World Special Summer Olympics has been held in Asia and developing countries.

There will be more than 10000 Special Olympics athletes and coaches from more than 70 countries and regions around the world, more than 20,000 parents, experts and scholars, guests and 30,000-40,000 volunteers.

The sports meeting has 2 1 official events, 4 performance events and several non-sports events.

What is the situation of hosting the 2007 World Special Olympics project in our district?

In 2007, our district will hold the Special Olympics cricket match. At present, our region has entered a state of combat readiness. The site, executing agency and responsible person have been basically determined.

On April 30th, 2007, the 2007 World Special Olympics was held in Room 203 of the District Convention Center, attended by 16.

The first meeting of the Preparatory Committee of Xi 'an discussed the work plan of holding cricket match in Fengxian District.
