The Development History of Indian Yoga
Yoga originated in India and has a history of more than 5,000 years. It is called "the treasure of the world". Yoga originated in the Himalayan foothills of northern India. When practicing body and mind in nature, ancient Indian yogis accidentally discovered that all kinds of animals and plants are born with methods of treatment, relaxation, sleep or staying awake, and can recover naturally without any treatment. Therefore, ancient Indian yogis observed, imitated and experienced animal gestures, and created a series of physical and mental exercise systems, namely postures. These postures have been tempered for more than 5,000 years. Yoga has taught people healing methods and benefited people from generation to generation.

Thousands of years ago, in India, in order to pursue the highest state of harmony between man and nature, monks often meditated in seclusion in the virgin forest. After living a simple life for a long time, monks have realized many natural laws from observing creatures. Then, from the living laws of creatures to the human body, they gradually perceive the subtle changes inside the body, so that human beings know how to talk to their own bodies, and thus know how to explore their own bodies, start to maintain and regulate their own health, and heal the wounds caused by diseases. After thousands of years of research and induction, a set of theoretical integrity, exact and practical fitness system has gradually evolved, which is yoga.

Archaeologists unearthed a well-preserved pottery in the Indus Valley, depicting the meditation form of yoga figures. This pottery has a history of at least 5000 years, which shows that the history of yoga can be traced back to longer.

Simply put, yoga is a kind of energetic physical exercise and mental exercise, and it is also a philosophy applied to daily life. The goal of yoga practice is to achieve a good understanding and adjustment of one's mind, and to be familiar with and master the body's senses. Modern scholars divide yoga into three periods:

First, the pre-classical period:

From 5000 BC to the appearance of Rigveda, it was about 3000 years, which was the period of primitive development of yoga and lack of written records. Yoga has gradually developed from a primitive philosophical thought to a practice, in which meditation, meditation and asceticism are the centers of yoga practice.

Second, the classical period:

From the Vedas recorded generally in 1500 BC to the yoga recorded clearly in Upanishads, and then to the appearance of the Bhagavad-gita, the integration of yoga practice and Vedanta philosophy was completed, which made yoga, a folk spiritual practice, from emphasizing practice to orthodoxy of behavior, belief and knowledge.

Around 300 BC, the Indian sage patanjali wrote the Yoga Sutra, on the basis of which Indian yoga really took shape, and the practice of yoga was officially defined as eight branches. Patanjali is revered as the ancestor of yoga.

3. Post-classical period:

After Yoga Sutra, it is post-classical yoga. It mainly includes the Upanishads of Yoga, Tantric Yoga and Mahatma Yoga. Yoga has twenty-one Upanishads. In these Upanishads, pure cognition, reasoning and even meditation are not the only way to achieve liberation. All need the physical transformation and spiritual experience caused by the ascetic practice skills to achieve the unity of Brahma and Me. So dieting, abstinence, posture, seven rounds, etc. The combination of spells and the combination of hand, body and teacher is the essence of yoga in the post-classical period.

Patanjali, the ancestor of yoga, is generally believed to have been born in Lalo between 200 and 500 BC.

According to legend, patanjali's mother, Gonica, was a knowledgeable yogi. She always hoped to impart what she had learned to a wise man, but failed to do so. Brother wanted to say that his life was running out, so he prayed to the sun god that Liu Neng would give her a saint she had been looking for. She prayed to the sun god with water in her hands and closed her eyes. Just as she was about to offer water to the sun god, she opened her eyes and saw a small snake in her hand. The little snake turned into a human in an instant and said to her, "I want to be your child." Veronica agreed and named him patanjali. Pat means falling, and An 'jali means putting your hands together. Because patanjali fell into her hands like a person from the sky, she was named Pat Ann Jali (Hindi:).

Legend has it that patanjali, the king of snakes, devoted himself to sacred dance in order to write Buddhism, and was reincarnated as the ancestor of yoga with the blessing of Shiva.
