Laozi
This paper analyzes the applicability of Laozi's thought in the modern and future from four aspects: self-cultivation, health preservation, using troops and governing the country.
First, cultivate one's morality
Laozi's Tao Te Ching said: "Knowing enough is not humiliating, knowing that it is not dangerous." If you know enough, you will not be insulted. If enough is enough, there will be no danger and failure.
If you can be satisfied when pursuing various interests in your daily life, enough is enough, and your mood will remain calm.
If you don't compete with others for benefits and have peace of mind and body, you are a cultivated and connotative person. This is a good way to cultivate one's morality.
Regardless of ancient times, modern times and the future, people who are too greedy and compete with others for benefits will be confused physically and mentally, and it is impossible to cultivate themselves.
Laozi's self-cultivation method of knowing contentment and making body and mind quiet is applicable in ancient and modern times and in the future.
Tao Te Ching
Second, medical care.
Laozi's "Tao Te Ching" talks about "simplicity, selfishness and no desire", which is a summary of Laozi's health care thought.
In other words, if you live a simple life and have less desire for fame and fortune, you can do a good job in health.
Huangdi Neijing said: "The disease is excessive". All human diseases are caused by overuse and overwork of a certain part. If the psychology of pursuing interests is too heavy, you will inevitably overwork yourself, thus damaging your health.
Now, as people are getting richer, they should pay attention to eating nutritious food. Results Overnutrition led to a significant increase in the number of patients in society.
Laozi said, "Five tones make people deaf and five colors make people blind". Listening to too much music will hurt people's hearing. Seeing too many colors will hurt your eyesight. Nowadays, people enjoy music and watch too many programs on their mobile phones, which is also harmful to their health. Plus playing cards, traveling and so on. Too much entertainment will do harm to your health.
Regardless of ancient times, modern times and the future, people who live a simple life and have little desire to pursue interests do the best health care.
Tao Te Ching
Third, fight.
Laozi's thought of using troops can be briefly summarized by "the ominous weapon of the soldier is forced to do it" and "using troops to surprise" in Laozi's Tao Te Ching.
In other words, Lao Tzu's fighting thought includes two points. First, we can't go to war easily. We can solve the problem through war only if we have to. Second, when fighting, we should take a surprise attack.
Since ancient times, China has practiced the first article of Laozi's thought of using troops, that is, the military strategy of not taking the initiative to attack, but preempting. In modern times, after the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the people of China still took "active defense, making the enemy attack later" as their national defense strategy.
China's preemptive strategy since ancient times shows that China has been a peace-loving country since ancient times.
Tao Te Ching
China has always believed that as long as there is war, the country will inevitably suffer heavy losses. Therefore, maintaining peace between countries without war is the highest strategy of national military.
Known as "the most belligerent country in the world", the United States, because of its pre-emptive military ideology, did not go to war with foreign countries for only 16 years in the history of more than 240 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Frequent wars have greatly consumed its national strength, making it impossible to stay in the position of the world's number one power for a long time. Now it is going downhill and will soon fall from the throne of the world's largest power.
And Laozi's "war is the active strategy after last resort" is the most practical military strategy in the past, present and future.
The effect of Laozi's "surprise, surprise" tactics has also been proved by wars since ancient times, and it will certainly be a practical military combat method in the future.
Fourth, governing the country.
Laozi's thought of governing the country is to govern by doing nothing.
The basic method of doing nothing is to reduce taxes, corvee, the number of troops and the government's control over the people.
In the early Han, Tang and Qing dynasties in ancient China, the state adopted the method of inaction, and as a result, these three periods became the most prosperous in our history.
These practices are equally effective abroad. It was during the industrial revolution that western countries gradually prospered by implementing the policy of limited government, reducing the government's management of society and implementing the policy of freedom.
After the reform and opening up in China, the government also reduced its control over state-owned enterprises and began to allow private enterprises to develop independently. Transforming the planned economy into a relatively free socialist market economy will enable the country to develop rapidly. Now the reform direction of government work is also changing from a management-oriented government to a service-oriented government. The government has changed from managing society to serving society.
Marxism believes that after the realization of capitalism in the future, the government and the state will gradually disappear, and there will be no government to manage society. By then, society will be highly civilized, there will be no crime and the economy will be extremely prosperous.
Laozi and Marx have similar thoughts in this respect. Laozi said, "Doing nothing is death." . In other words, if laissez-faire is completely implemented, the king and the government will not manage the society at all, and the country will be very harmonious and highly prosperous. Of course, this can only be achieved in a highly civilized capitalist society.
Marx
Laozi's way of governing the country by doing nothing applies to the past, present and future.
What changes in society is phenomenon, and the law of phenomenon change is unchanged. The basic laws of life and society in Laozi's Tao Te Ching are applicable in the past, now and in the future.
