Ji Kang: The more famous, the more natural.
Text: Tiffany Ting

He is a writer, musician, thinker, health care worker and philosopher.

He has a unique personality in dealing with people, is not afraid of powerful people and is indomitable.

He was only 40 years old and died tragically at the hands of his political enemies. He is a leading figure with great personality charm in the whole literary and ideological circle of Wei and Jin Dynasties, and his personality charm and cultural influence are enormous and far-reaching.

He is a generation of talents-Ji Kang.

Ji Kang, uncle Zi Ye, is one of the spiritual leaders of the Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest. Many thoughts and theories in his works, such as the theory of keeping in good health, the theory of solving problems in keeping in good health, the theory of private interpretation, the theory of no sorrow and music, broke through the traditional views at that time and became a model for future generations to learn. Ji Shi Juan contains the theory of health preservation, and the theory of health preservation has become the first comprehensive and systematic health preservation monograph in the history of health preservation in China. His idea of keeping in good health was highly praised by Sun Simiao, a famous physician, and Tao Hongjing, a master of keeping in good health, which had a far-reaching influence on later generations.

An ancient handsome man with extraordinary charm

The Book of Jin Ji Kang Biography records that he is "talented and far away from the crowd." It's seven feet eight inches long, beautiful and elegant, but it's clumsy and doesn't decorate itself. People think dragons are elegant and natural. ""Kang tasted herbs and toured Shanze. He was full of pride and suddenly forgot. Sometimes firewood meets Sue, and salt is called God. "Translated into vernacular Chinese, he has extraordinary demeanor and is tall. According to the contract of Wei Ruler, he is1.81.91m, with a handsome appearance, pleasant voice, extraordinary temperament and excellent literary talent. The woodcutter in the mountain met him and thought he had met a fairy.

There are many words in different historical materials that record his handsome appearance and extraordinary temperament. This ancient handsome boy must be a generation of fresh meat with a large number of fans in today's developed information.

Of course, Ji Kang's reputation won't spread all over the world forever if he just looks glamorous. Matching his handsome appearance is his more outstanding literary talent. His poems are full of vigor and vitality. His works, such as Seven Poems on Autumn Break, Eleven Poems in Four Words, Poems on Scholars in Five Words, Dear John Shan Juyuan, Advice from a Teacher, Fu Qin, Guan Cai, etc., are very lucky to be handed down completely, so that future generations can fully and clearly appreciate his talents and poems.

There have always been a lot of poetic people, but Ji Kang is most praised for his unyielding personality. He resolutely refused to yield to the Si Mazhao political group that contradicted his political views, so that Sima Qian's men died tragically at the age of 40. With Ji Kang's talent, if he lives for another 40 or 50 years, I don't know how many literary masterpieces will be added to China's literary world. The history of health preservation in China is unknown.

Ji Kang's death is an eternal regret. The predecessors have all passed away, leaving nothing to remember.

The concept of physical and mental health.

During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the study of health preservation flourished, and two opposing ideas coexisted in society: one thought that Taoism could become immortal and live forever; The second is that "life and death are all decided by heaven, and half of them are not decided by people." In view of these extreme theories, Ji Kang pointed out from an objective point of view that mortals cannot become immortals, and it is even more undesirable to let them die. If we train them properly, we can reach the theory of "Angie" and "Peng Zu". His idea of keeping in good health stands out among various schools and is highly respected by later masters.

Advocate "physical and mental cultivation": a strong body means health, a happy mind means health, the body is "outside" and the mind is "inside", and a healthy person must be physically and mentally healthy. Concise spirit is hard to be healthy. "The Theory of Health Preservation" says: "A gentleman is a man who knows the shape and stands by God. God must exist in the shape, and he knows that physiology is easy to lose, but he knows that it is fatal." The health of form depends on God, and God depends on form. It can be seen that form and spirit are highly unified, and God plays a commanding role in form. He believes that body and mind exist because of mutual influence, so ignoring physical maintenance will do harm to the heart. Ji Kang's "health preservation" lies in seeking the natural quality of transcending the body and returning to "qi".

Advocating "little by little accumulation": He believes that everything in the world is born, and "the harm is small, so it is cured, so there is a cure for reactive power." The preservation of body and spirit should start from little by little, not from small goodness, not from small evil. Physical diseases can be cured by drugs, but mental injuries are difficult to make up by tonic, diet and fitness. In daily life, we should accumulate bit by bit, protect our body and spirit, start from the details, and avoid the future trouble of "a levee of a thousand miles will collapse in an ant hole".

Advocate "to desire": "There are five difficulties in health preservation: fame and fortune are rare; It is difficult to get angry, but it is difficult to get rid of it; There are three difficulties in keeping quiet: endless taste is the four difficulties; Distraction is five difficulties. These five people must exist. Although the heart is hard to get old, your mouth is full of words, chewing Huaying and breathing sunshine, and you can't help but return to it. "In the five difficulties he summed up, fame, debauchery and taste are the pursuit of desire; Emotion and anger are psychological responses to desire. He roughly attributed the factors that hinder health preservation to "desire", divided desire into "sexual activity" from physiological needs and "intellectual use" from rational pursuit.

For ordinary people, it is absolutely impossible to get rid of desire. People have appetite, lust, sexual desire, famous lust, and people have all kinds of greed. Ji Kang knows this very well. He didn't ask people to get rid of all desires, but advocated that "wisdom should stop at peace and sex should be harmonious": "Sexual activity" is natural and should not be suppressed, but should be treated as "abstinence". "Clever use" focuses on fame and fortune, which is the pursuit of material and honor other than natural truth, and should be eliminated by "eliminating desire". He didn't ask people to be saints instead of eat drink man woman. He emphasized that "the feeling of kindness and life" should obey "the principle of life and life". This idea not only respects the law of life, but also emphasizes self-control, which is in line with human nature. His view not only opposes the lust concept of "living according to one's own desires", but also denies the Confucian view of "feeling with courtesy" which is completely suppressed by morality and ethics after lust is aroused. It is the development of Laozi and Zhuangzi's theory and has more practical significance. Therefore, Ji Kang's "desire to go" is not a "abstinence and abstinence" that destroys humanity, but a rational "desire to control". Ji Kang's thought of "empty inaction" not only inherited the spirit of "clear metaphysics" of Laozi and Zhuangzi, but also surpassed Zhuangzi's pure proposition of "inaction".

Advocating "keeping in harmony": In the theory of health preservation, there are many references to "harmony": wisdom stops at tranquility, nature is full of harmony, purity and calmness, and there are few selfish desires ... What is the purpose of so many "harmony"? Ji Kang's definition of "harmony" is obviously diverse, but it closely revolves around the main line of "harmony between man and nature". His exposition of "harmony" draws on the inner spirit from the tradition of Confucianism, Taoism and medicine, endows "harmony" with the "natural" connotation of metaphysics, and promotes it to the philosophical level of "doing nothing without doing anything", which has practical significance.

He emphasized "the unity of inside and outside, the unity of man and nature" and tried to achieve the realm of "doing nothing and being complacent, wonderful and mysterious" on the basis of health preservation. The significance of health preservation lies not in transcending the limitations of nature, but in trying to transcend artificial cultivation, so that life can break through the limited limitations of the body and achieve eternal life. This is the most important concept of Ji Kang's concept of health preservation.

Unique music health preservation technology

Ji Kang is a master of music, familiar with melody and especially fond of playing the piano. He is the author of Fu Qin and On Sound Without Sorrow. He advocates that the essence of music and the essence of health preservation are interlinked, and its core is "harmony", which is the highest realm of music. He believes that emotion is not the feeling of music in essence, but the feeling of people. His work "Pine Wind" has been widely played so far. Long Qing, Short Qing, Long Bian and Short Bian, together with Cai Yong's Cai's Five Farmers, are called "Ji's Four Farmers" and "Nine Farmers", which are a famous group of piano music in ancient China. Emperor Yang Di once regarded the performance of Jiunong as one of the conditions for selecting a scholar in the imperial examination, which shows Ji Kang's musical talent.

Ji Kang said in The Theory of Health Preservation: "Steam it with Ganoderma lucidum, moisten it with Liquan, embrace it with Chaoyang, embrace it with five strings", and "embrace it with five strings" is his "music health preservation method", which is not found in previous health preservation works. "Sui" means comfort, and "Wuxian" is an ancient plucked instrument. In the atmosphere of music, people have mixed feelings.

The ultimate goal of a wonderful body and a mysterious mind

Since ancient times, it has been a good thing for the people that the means of health preservation are complicated, the forms are diverse, the schools are colorful, and the theories are diverse. Ji Kang practiced his idea, and his friend said, "I have lived with Kang for 20 years, and I have never seen his joy." His own theory is almost finished. However, he committed the taboo of "forgetting outside the camp" and was eventually framed and killed, which is regrettable.

Looking at Ji Kang's theory of health preservation, his ultimate pursuit is "broad-minded, carefree and silent", "free and unfettered, graceful and mysterious; Therefore, Ji Kang's ultimate concern is not only health preservation or music, but also "being at a loss about right and wrong".

Ji Kang's "mystery-solving" has achieved the realm of happiness and eternal feelings in his life.
