In order to prevent bulbs such as onion and garlic from sprouting during storage, the method of "hanging onions" is used in rural areas. After harvesting, onion and garlic are slightly aired, then braided with dead leaves and hung under a cool, ventilated and dry eaves, which can prolong the storage time and reduce the loss of rot. It can also be stored at low temperature. If it is stored below 5℃, the bud of bulbs can be inhibited. If the storage temperature is lowered again, the cost of storage period will increase. However, when people put it in the cold storage too late, the effect of inhibiting germination is not obvious, and the refrigerated bulbs germinate quickly after leaving the warehouse.
Before harvesting15 days, spraying 3000mg/L liquid medicine on the leaves of onion and garlic can inhibit the germination of bulbs during storage and prolong the dormancy period. It is also effective to apply 25~ 150mg/L of 2,4,5–T sodium salt solution. But the results of these tests are unstable. Treatment with fresh green pigment such as Dongwei can significantly inhibit germination and prolong storage period.
