What font is the fourteen-character regimen of Taishang Laojun?
Such a couplet composed of fourteen obscure words surprised many tourists, but unfortunately it was incomprehensible. Combined with my own understanding, this couplet is annotated and explained from the aspects of font, pronunciation and word meaning. This description is mainly discussed from the following three aspects:

First, these fourteen words are all created with specific meanings according to the Taoist classics and the knowledge in the Six Classics. For example, the word [Tibao] is pronounced as "jade". Because Taoism believes that essence, qi and spirit are the three treasures of the human body, which are as precious as jade, taking the shape of "body treasure" and the sound of "jade" gives the word concrete meaning. Another example is Shen Dan, that is, the word "furnace". Taoism believes that the intersection of yin and harmony cultivates inner alchemy. Therefore, the word "Shen Dan" means that man himself is a precious blast furnace.

Second, the extension and metaphor of meaning. For example, the word "Tianshui Jing" is pronounced as "Yi" and consists of three parts: heaven, water and Jing. It means that when all other people's distractions are eliminated and the form and spirit are in harmony, the palate will produce a kind of body fluid, which is compared to the water in the courtyard, because it comes down from the palate and because it is the initial result of Taoist cultivation of real kung fu.

Third, pay attention to the order and sequence of Taoist kung fu practice. For example, the first part: [Shenbao] [Shen Dan] [C fire] [wood, stone, earth] [fate] [ten million] [household water] refers to three aspects and sequential processes: internal refining, foundation and drug collection. The second couplet [Zhengqing] [Humanity] [Humanity] [Sincerity] [Medicine Classic] [In Man] and [Nine Truth] refers to the sequence and process from layman Xiu De to effective Dan Cheng. Examples are given to illustrate the methods and basis used in the annotation process.

This couplet is engraved on the side of the stone tablet of Tao Te Ching at the gate of Laozi Temple, an ancient building. In the upper right corner of the first couplet, it is marked "Masterpiece". Seven of the words are included in Kangxi Dictionary, but the rest can't be found in dictionaries. However, according to Taoist auspicious symbols, the first part is read as "Jade Furnace Burning Medicine for Immortality" and the second part is read as "Zhengdao Xiushishou Pill", which is the joint language of Taoist health cultivation. According to the structure of the word, combined with the Taoist practice of alchemy, this paper tries to explore and explain it as follows:

[Body Treasure] Pronunciation: Jade [Jade]: Jade means precious. There are treasures at home, the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky, and essence, qi and spirit in people. According to legend, the old gentleman coined this word because he studied the practice of alchemy and the natural way of the universe. Knowing that you have treasure, it is as precious as jade. Ordinary people can't protect themselves because they are obsessed with various feelings and indulge themselves. Therefore, Chapter 75 of the Tao Te Ching says, "It is light for people to die, but thick for them to survive." Refers to excessive greed in life, troubles and delusions, and unconsciously losing treasures, leading to premature death. Therefore, the old man coined this word, teaching people to stick to the three treasures, calm the world and save energy in order to live forever.

[Shen Dan] Pronunciation: Furnace [[Lu]]: A furnace is an instrument for smelting. There are two kinds of Taoist health-preserving alchemy: taking external medicine (grass, wood, stone, silver and sand), setting up a furnace and setting up a tripod, and taking firewood as external alchemy, which means refining internal alchemy. Judging from the composition of characters, it should be understood that the essence, qi and spirit inherent in the human body are used to extract the real health elixir through the interaction of yin and yang. Taoism's Five Precious Pieces of Single Crystal urged Yakun to be a tripod and tried black rabbit medicine cooking for the second time. "The human body is like a small dry Kun, with both a tripod and an alchemist. The word "Shen Dan" reflects the basic method of Taoist cultivation.

[C fire] Pronunciation: Shao: According to Zhang Daozhong's note: 1. Internal fire. First, it is also water; There is water and fire in the body. Don't burn firewood, use your own fire and water to burn stubborn ore, so that you can be calm and upright, and cinnabar can't be lost. If you get a big doctor, you will gain the skill of immortality. This explanation is also consistent with Jing Yi's Taoist practice in Danfa. Compared with the seasons, the four seasons are all winter in the end, and it is extremely cold when the winter solstice comes every year. In the sky, it is Ren, in the ground, Haizi, in Bu, in Fang, due north. According to the taiji diagram of the old gentleman, yin generates yang, so it is called "winter generates one yang" and the cathode generates yang after running for four hours. Water is where everything is, that is to say, the human body also has the principle of cathode generating yang. So, every midnight, when I sleep very quietly, my qi is impulsive, my kidney is boiling, and it's not natural to have water. Fire is the summer in season, just south of the square, the points in the hexagrams, Ding Bing in the sky, the noon in the ground, the sun in the three lights, and the heart in the human body. Therefore, the yogi is born with water in the sky, and when the true qi is impulsive, he must immediately recruit with his heart so as not to leak it. It is mentioned in the Taoist "Single Crystal" that the fire forces the gold traveler, which means that the heart fire drops, the kidney water rises, and the yin and yang intersect to burn.

[Wood, stone and earth] Pronunciation: Lian: This word is composed of "wood", "stone" and "earth". According to the Taoist theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements, wood can make a fire, so wood is the fire source, stone is the metal, and gold can produce water, so gold is the water source. Taoist "Single Crystal" said: "Wood is Vulcan, and gold is the essence of water. Soil can gather five elements. " Taoism compares material gold, wood, water, fire and earth to human lung, liver, kidney, heart and spleen. The four seasons of gold, wood, water and fire change differently. Only the soil belongs to the central government and the four seasons flourish. Gold, wood, water and fire all depend on soil. Therefore, it is said that "soil can give birth to everything". Taoist "single crystal" is also called clay pot, media employment and Huang Po. It means using people's minds to attract fire and water in the human body, so that it can return to its source, discard its dross and take its essence (Shen Yuan, jing yuan). Only through such refining can the true qi function normally.

Pronunciation: Yan: Yan is composed of the words "heart" and "destiny". It means to prolong life. Taoism believes that only the dual cultivation of sex (mind) and life can prolong life. Therefore, Single Crystal said: "Only knowing the nature of cultivation and not knowing the destiny is the first disease of practice." To cultivate nature is to cultivate mind. Peace of mind makes all thoughts ethereal and relaxed. To cultivate life means to cultivate essence, be cautious about sexual intercourse, abstain from lust, and be perfect. Because people's mind and essence are closely related, if they are uneasy, essence will inevitably be consumed and life will be short. Therefore, the meaning of this word is to teach people to calm down and stick to the essence on weekdays, which is the foundation of prolonging life, that is, the way of health preservation advocated by Taoism.

Pronunciation: NIAN Meaning: This word consists of "thousand" and "ten thousand". It means that practicing according to law can lead to a long life without promises. Therefore, Song Yu's "Gao Tang Mi" has a sentence "Nine sneaky and melancholy, mental stagnation, long life." "The Book of Song Dynasty, the third part of music" says: "Long live today's music to prolong life". Guang told Xuanyuan Huangdi the way of keeping in good health in Zhuangzi Yi, saying, "Heaven and earth have palaces, and Yin and Yang have hidden things. If you protect your body carefully, things will become stronger. I will guard one of them to get along with it, so I cultivate my self-cultivation, and my body shape has not declined for 1,200 years. " "Ten million" means long-term. If people can follow the old man's regimen for a long time, they will be strong and healthy and live longer.

[Home Water] Pronunciation: What does it mean? This word consists of three words: Zi, Jia and Shui. This [home water] is the element of Inner Dan. The Taoist classic "The Jade Emperor's Heart Seal Sutra" says: There are three kinds of medicines, essence and essence. Self, home and water, that is, semen in human body, are the sources of medicine for the three products. Therefore, the Taoist "Single Crystal Five True Articles" also said: "Everyone has an elixir of life, but they just lost their way and threw it away. When the dew falls, heaven and earth are in harmony, and yellow buds are born in the column. " [Home Water] (Medicine) Everyone has it at home, whether virtuous or stupid. It's just that ordinary people have excessive lust because of careless sexual intercourse, so that the source of "medicine" dries up and dies. Therefore, practitioners regard abstinence, building a foundation and refining essence as the most fundamental kung fu for health preservation.

[Zhengqing] Pronunciation: the meaning of orthography: Zhang Daozhong's note: "One, stop, the Lord, the moon and the right are true, and all are correct. The Lord also noticed that the moon is green, and green is the color of the east, the first of the five parties, and the beginning of the four clean-ups. People can truly become immortals. " The meaning of Zhang Daozhong's explanation is still obscure. According to the composition and meaning of this word, it is opposite to the word [Tibao] in the upper part. The word "Shenbao" in the first part of the couplet is "Zhengqing", which clearly shows that people know that there are three treasures in their bodies, namely essence, qi and spirit, so they should stick to it and not lose it. It means that the laity is pure and pure, which is the foundation of Xiu De. So it means fighting morality, internally and externally. "Green", in the five elements of wood, wood is blue, spring in the four seasons, and east in the four directions, which belongs to the lively side of everything. Spring is the first year of Sui Dynasty. Plants should be born in spring. Green onions suggest that people can prosper if they follow the Taoist regimen, such as grass meets spring. It can be seen that the word "Zhengqing" embodies the fairness of cultivation and the significance of business.

[Humanitarian Inch]: Pronunciation: Daoyi: This word consists of "person", "Tao" and "inch". "Man" refers to the human body. "Tao" refers to the law of the operation of everything in the universe. "Inch" is a very small unit of length, which means "inch heart" and "square inch", that is, the individual's heart. The whole word contains the natural meaning of Taoism, that is, it does not deviate from common sense and violate heaven. The word "treasure" in the first couplet is a metaphor for the intersection of Yin and Yang, while the word "human nature" teaches people to follow the way of Yin and Yang when practicing, which often makes people in an innocent and stupid state of peace. However, due to the secular influence, most people are restless, cranky, confused in thinking, busy in limbs, disordered in the operation of qi and blood, unbalanced in yin and yang, and deviate from the way of nature. Therefore, writing teaches people to meditate, eliminate evil thoughts, and return to simplicity by the way.

Pronunciation: XING Meaning: This word consists of "person", "law" and "heart". "People" still refers to the human body. "Fa" means learning from others. "Heart" refers to the human mind. The Taoist book Neijing said: "When people are calm and want to lead them, they can often send their desires away. When they are calm and clear, God is clear." People's hearts are calm, but they can't persist because of selfish desires. This word means to teach people to calm down, stop thinking and be calm. Educators call this meaning "returning to nature". The Yin Fu Jing says, "The mind is born in things and dies in things". The Zen Sutra says: "If you are tempted and don't forget your heart, if you are hollow and don't hold your heart, if you are idle, you will always be quiet and noisy, and you will be one." The Great Hole Sutra says: "Quiet is nature, the heart is in it, movement is the heart, and nature is in it. The nature of the heart has been destroyed. Now the nature of the heart is like nothing, and Zhan Ran is complete. " Chapter 19 of Tao Te Ching says, "Be simple, be simple and be selfish." . All of the above are about getting rid of selfish desires and improving my state of mind.

[Zhicheng] Pronunciation: Xiuyi: This word consists of "Zhi" and "Cheng". "Realization" means realization, "achievement" means success, and the whole word implies perseverance and determination. The above words have explained the preciousness of human spirit, the wisdom of the intersection of yin and yang, and the wonderful use of heart and kidney is water and fire. If you can let nature take its course, persevere and practice sincerely, you will surely succeed. Therefore, the Taoist "Jade Emperor's Heart Seal Sutra" said: "The mixture of return air is a hundred days' work." It means that after watching TV, 100 days, you can see the effect of cultivation.

[Tianshui Jing] Pronunciation: Yi Meaning: This word consists of "water", "heaven" and "well". Zhang Daozhong's note: "The medicine well is full because there is water in the courtyard. No shortage of water. This means that the body fluids in the population are just like the water in the yard, so the population lives with water and dies without water in its mouth for seven days. If people can swallow body fluids regularly, they can empty their hearts and enrich their stomachs, which is the foundation of longevity. " This explanation basically conforms to the law of Lao Jun's cultivation. The so-called "heaven", "well" and "water" mean that when people are trying to be extremely quiet, Yin and Yang meet and feel calm, and only feel that there is a particularly sweet body fluid in the mouth and palate, which nourishes bones from top to bottom. Therefore, the Tao Te Ching says, "When heaven and earth meet, it is necessary to drop dew". Lv Dongbin's "Hundred Words Monument" said: "On the white clouds, dew is sprinkled with sumeru." It's all about this.

Pronunciation: ShouMeaning: this word consists of three words: in, in and in. "Man" refers to the so-called true body of Taoism (practitioners call it an unborn baby). "Inner" means that the essence, qi and spirit in the human body condense into a crystal. Therefore, the Taoist "Single Crystal Magic Device" said that the shape of the elixir when it grows up is "like a chicken, black and white, and one inch wide. It is thought that at first, all the limbs and five internal organs are present, and its cells will emerge in October, with weak bones and smooth flesh." Because it looks like a chicken, it is called Dan, and because it looks like a baby, it is also called "baby". But at this time, Dan is still immature in the human body, like a pregnant woman who has not given birth, so it is "in", "in" and "in", that is, the word "in". If you realize this danger in your body, you can live a long life.

[Nine Truth] Pronunciation: Dan Meaning: This word consists of "nine" and "truth". Nine is long-term practice, and truth is truth. Although the ancient vocabulary of this word has not been verified, its meaning is not surprising. For example, brewing Chinese medicine has the saying of "nine steaming and nine drying". This is similar to the yogi's saying that "nine turns to Dan" when practicing successfully. Therefore, the Taoist "Single Crystal" said that "three thousand merits are full" and the so-called "three thousand" is three thousand days, nearly nine years. The "nine" here cannot be understood as absolute nine times or nine years. To be exact, "nine" is the homonym of "long", which means continuous cultivation. Such as alchemy, the more times, the higher the purity. And "alchemy" must also be practiced for a long time before it can be refined into a real alchemy.
