Taste Makes Ten Virtues —— Huang Tingjian's Fragrant World (I)
Huang Tingjian, whose real name is Lu Zhi, was born in Fenning, Hongzhou (now Xiushui, Jiangxi) and is known as the "Yellow Valley". He is a great painter and writer, and also a master of Xiang Xue.

Huang Tingjian comes from a knowledgeable family. He was brilliant since childhood, had a rough life and was keen on Buddhism, which was very similar to Su Dongpo. The Biography of Wen Yuan in the History of Song Dynasty called him "a natural acquisition of articles on court swords", and Chen Shidao called him "a poet who learned from Du Fu and was good at cursive writing."

In the history of incense culture, Huang Tingjian is an important master of incense, and for Huang Ting, as Li Lin said, "There are a few incense in the yellow road, and the platform is empty." The Ten Virtues of Incense, written by Huang Tingjian and others, highly summarizes the characteristics and functions of incense and has a far-reaching influence on the study of incense culture in later generations.

Ten Virtues of Incense (Huang Jianting)

Sense of ghosts and gods, clean body and mind.

You can get rid of filth and sleep.

Make friends in silence and steal time in the dust.

Too much is enough, too little is enough.

Long hidden immortal, often unimpeded.

Sense of ghosts and gods: incense is "born by gathering heaven and earth and pure yang", and it has the function of "sense of ghosts and gods" because of its pure positive. Incense permeates the three realms and can sense the essence from heaven and earth.

Clean body and mind: incense is born to gather the pure yang of heaven and earth, and naturally has the effect of cleaning body and mind. Pure means clean and pure. It can also guide people to keep clean and free from external interference.

Can dispel filth: get rid of filth, get rid of filth, dredge meridians, enlighten the mind, make evil spirits not invade, and achieve the effect of health care. However, if you have bad intentions and your body and mind are covered with dirt, I am afraid that the role of incense in removing filth is minimal.

Can sleep: a furnace of incense, full of yang, can not only strengthen the body resistance and eliminate evil, but also nourish the yang, which can improve the quality of sleep.

Be friends in silence: fragrance is a pleasant and calm thing. The aroma overflows the furnace, and the colored smoke curls up, which can not only make people feel happy, but also have good friends.

Stealing time in the dust: take time out of the busy secular world and let the body and mind get a kind of peace.

Never get tired of having more: having a lot is not boring, but also satisfying. But you should do what you can and be content. But don't be insatiable, and you can't just ask for more and not be satisfied.

Less is enough: less can be satisfied, and satisfied people are always happy. Greed, the first of the five poisons, is a barrier to worry, so you don't have to worry. "Greed, anger, stupidity, slowness and doubt" are called "five poisons" and are also the five roots of hell.

Immortality: it will not rot if stored for a long time.

Commonly used without obstacles: because troubles can hinder the holy road, they are said to be obstacles (obstacles, that is, troubles). Therefore, for thousands of years, good incense has been regarded as a wonderful work in life, used all the time and kept at home.

Handed down calligraphy "Xiang Ying Square" sticker

In Huang Tingjian's calligraphy works handed down from generation to generation, there is a prescription sticker of baby fragrance, which describes the formula for making baby fragrance. Xiang Yingfang is an aromatic formula widely circulated in Song Dynasty. The classic of Xiangfang can be traced back to a volume of Xiangfang written by Emperor Song Ming in Sui Shu's Art and Literature Annals.

Baby's fragrance, horns sink at the end of three or two, cloves at the end of four dollars, borneol at the end of seven dollars, and musk San Qian at the end of one dollar, and ground evenly. Remove half the teeth and grind them evenly. Add six taels of refined honey and mix well. Take it out in the shade in January, and the pill is as big as a chicken head. Just keep this in mind and wait for the inspection to get the brochure, or don't record it.

The handwriting of this prescription has been altered:

The fourth line: Gong Jiaxiang's treatment was changed from half to one, and the word "plus money" was added.

The fifth line: add one or two words to Yan, pay attention to the word "tooth" next to Yan, and change one word to "half".

The sixth line: refine honey four Liang, four words become six words.

To sum up, the changed part is mainly the weight.

This post is cursive. Income "Song Shu Xian Han Juan" the third picture, nine lines of 8 1 word. According to the records of Baodi III in Shiqu * Yanchunge. There is an old tag cloud on the left. This prescription was written by Huang Gu.

This formula takes agarwood as the main material, clove, borneol and musk as the auxiliary materials, Jiaxiang as the fixative, mirabilite as the combustion improver and honey as the adhesive.
