What is the harm of foot-and-mouth disease in pigs?
Pig foot-and-mouth disease is an acute, hot and highly contagious infectious disease caused by a certain type of foot-and-mouth disease virus. The incidence rate is high, the infection rate is fast, and the epidemic area is large, which can cause a large number of deaths and serious losses of piglets. Foot-and-mouth disease virus has strong resistance to the external environment. Long-term survival in pig body surface, soil, feeding management equipment, feces, etc., with many transmission routes (digestive tract, damaged mucosa, skin) and many transmission media (secretions and excretions of sick pigs, meat, viscera, hair, bones, blood clots of sick pigs, feeding management tools, transportation tools, wild animals and insects). So once it happens, it can cause a wide range of popularity. The main pathological changes of sick pigs are in the hoof, and blisters appear in the crown, fork and heel of the hoof. The rupture of blisters can also cause secondary infection, which makes walking or lying inconvenient. In addition, some sick pigs will also have blisters and ulcers on the nose plate, gums, tongue and other parts, which will affect eating and make pigs lose weight faster. Piglets often die of acute gastroenteritis and myocarditis after getting sick. It can be seen from the above that the harm caused by foot-and-mouth disease is great, so pig-raising units should pay special attention to the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease.

In order to prevent this disease, we should do the following work:

(1) Prevent diseases from being introduced into pigs from the outside.

(2) strengthen the quarantine work of pig trading market, slaughter and transportation.

(3) When foot-and-mouth disease is suspected, report the epidemic situation and make a quick diagnosis; If it is confirmed as foot-and-mouth disease, it should be blocked immediately and handled according to the principle of "early, fast, strict and small".

(4) Strictly disinfect pigsty, environment and feeding management appliances.

(5) Foot-and-mouth disease vaccine can be injected into the muscles of epidemic areas.
