Ge Hong of Gexian Cave
Ge Hong (Wu Gong 283-363) was a Taoist theorist, medical scientist and alchemist in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and was born in Jurong, Danyang (now Jiangsu). The Book of Jin records that he is famous for Confucianism, and he is especially good at guiding immortals by studying ancient books. According to Jiajing's Tongling County Records in the Ming Dynasty, Ge Hong once practiced health and planted apricot pills in this mountain, hence the names Xingshan and Gexian Cave. According to legend, Ge Hong cured hundreds of smallpox and rabies in Xingshan alchemy, and was loved and respected by the villagers, calling him "Ge Xian". When people learned of Ge Hong's death, they built a "Xingshan Temple" here. There are paintings and statues of Ge Xian hanging in the hall, and the sacrifice is held at four o'clock. Many tourists come here to mourn and visit, and literati often come here to recite poems and pay homage to the sages. Later, due to frequent wars, temples were destroyed, caves were blocked, and Xingshan was deserted. 1In August, 1992, at the suggestion of Tongling CPPCC, Tongling county government built Gexiandong Park, which made this scenic spot lost for hundreds of years reappear in the world, and added pavilions, parks and gates, and introduced the inscription of the park.
