Minimalist life is basically a break with greed.
I have been exposed to the concept of minimalist life for more than two years. There have been some changes during this period, but I still can't jump out of the strange circle of buying and selling. Or sometimes it's very calm, as if it can really be indifferent to material desires, but sometimes it's crazy to restrain revenge consumption after a period of time. It was not until I began to study Buddhism half a year ago that I suddenly understood what the fundamental meaning of minimalism was. Practicing minimalism began with getting rid of greed.

The Buddha believes that there are three poisons in people's hearts, namely, "greed, anger and stupidity". The first is greed, which is the root of all troubles. Lust after all good things and enjoy them. If there is no food, it is good to feel full. I want to eat more meat when I'm full. After eating big fish and meat, I want to eat the specialties of famous chefs, and finally I have to taste all the delicious food in the world. Desire is amazing. Although invisible and intangible, it will never be filled. There are many oceans and waters, and people's greed is countless. There is a story about human greed being infinitely magnified: Ji Zi saw Zhou Wang eating ivory chopsticks and lamented the luxury of Zhou Wang. He said: "If it is like chopsticks, it must be a jade cup. If it is a cup, it must be made by the wonders of Philip Burkart Fang Zhen, and the horse palace will gradually rise." Later, Zhou's national subjugation was a bloody case caused by a pair of ivory chopsticks.

? I'm not a foodie, I'm a house girl. I always remember to prepare three curtains, four sets of pillows, two kinds of tableware and shower curtains to be changed frequently, because changing soft clothes is like changing a new home, romantic style, Barbie style, classical style, fashion style and baroque style. At the same time, it is also a semi-service control. I often buy clothes that look similar, just because the buttons are different in color and length, or because the fat version is different from the thin version. I firmly believe that this difference can make me look different.

? It seems that this is the daily thinking of urbanites, but if we let our desires indulge, like a runaway wild horse, it has already exceeded the needs of the body. You can keep healthy through simple tea and food. Delicious food is not necessary for your body, but for your inner greed. Simple supplies can make life convenient, and storing all kinds of tableware curtains is actually for "greed".

Although buying and throwing is under the banner of "minimalism", it is not really minimalism, because it has not fundamentally got rid of greed. Give up greed for one thing, then give up greed for another thing, or cycle through greed. (Samsara, a Buddhist term, refers to all beings coming back from the dead, coming back from life, living and dying, living and dying, endlessly turning like a wheel, endlessly circulating. Buddhism believes that all sentient beings will live and die forever in the "six ways" without seeking "liberation", and the cycle will continue. The metaphor in this paper is going back and forth in greed, and I can't get rid of it. According to Buddhism, selling is not a real liberation. Therefore, those who throw and buy at the same time, you can't be true minimalists.

The best way to achieve minimalism successfully is to break greed and be a person who wants less. Nowadays, especially in cities, we often define ourselves as "fashionistas" rather than "natural persons". We have to have dozens of popular lipsticks to keep up with the trend: lip biting makeup is popular now, how can I continue to use the old-fashioned menstrual color? We have to use high-end things to show our identity: I am no poorer than such a man carrying Chanel. Change the bag! In this way, batches of goods are produced because of our desires, filling the business center and then filling our homes.

? If we define ourselves as a "natural person" and only have the necessities of a natural person, then we don't need too much. A lipstick can be used up with concentration, or it can look good at any time. Ordinary bags will not break after three or four years. If you have a sturdy and easy-to-use bag and want to buy a new one, tell yourself immediately that it is unnecessary, greedy and should be cut off, which is very close to a minimalist life. In this process, you will find that your belongings are less and less, and you will become peaceful.

Interpretation of Buddhism and Religion says: "If you want to get rid of all your troubles, you should be satisfied. The way to be content is happiness and security. A contented person, although lying on the ground, is still happy. Dissatisfied people are in heaven, but don't care. Those who are not satisfied are rich and poor; A contented person; Although poor and rich. People who are not satisfied are often led by the five desires, and those who are satisfied are pitiful. "Be content with fame", this sentence is often recited, in order to cultivate the mind of wanting to be content with less and get rid of the distress caused by greed. "In order to pursue interests, the commercial society uses various propaganda to guide mainstream values to worship things and pursue fashion, but these are external factors. To reduce material desires and practice minimalism, it is basically up to you to see if you have the determination to change your mind.

? So when it comes to this, some people will say that Buddhism makes us want to meet less, and everyone wants to know less. How does this society develop? How to promote social economy without consumption? They don't pursue a more convenient life. How can there be so many inventions that change society? Without making money, how can there be such a brilliant enterprise? Let's take a closer look at the body and mind and think about it. Commodity economy is only 300 years old (China is shorter). In these 300 years, human society has certainly developed rapidly. We can pick stars from above and explore the seabed, but can our life really be regarded as a "good" word?

? In this colorful commodity society, material-centered values are constantly instilled, and people's inner greed is constantly strengthened, reaching an unprecedented expansion. Comparison, jealousy and competition caused by greed, on the one hand, make people restless, produce all kinds of bad mentality and mental illness, on the other hand, lead to all kinds of crimes and wars. I once saw a colleague feel uncomfortable because her friend showed off her newly bought house, and there was endless resentment in her expression and words. Buddhism believes that happiness in the world is bitter joy. Even if this colleague has a big house and is temporarily happy, he will be jealous of his friend's bigger house in the future and continue this hatred and reincarnation in bitterness and joy. Americans' excessive consumption of resources ended in the death and injury of Iraqi civilians. If they blow more air conditioners, people will die. So is the world better or worse because of the pursuit of material things? This is obvious. In fact, all countries try their best to compete for resources.

These are man-made disasters, and natural disasters are even worse. All kinds of goods and enjoyment we consume, no matter through what channels and who earns the money, are ultimately consuming natural resources, because nature is the only provider of means of production. You want to learn painting, buy some colored lead, cut down trees, dress up and buy some jeans, but the river pollution is behind you. Because of the greenhouse effect, the Arctic glaciers are melting, and the living environment of polar bears is not guaranteed. We all feel pity when we see them, but we don't know that controlling our greed and consuming less resources is the greatest protection for them.

The innate "ignorance" of human beings (Buddhism refers to stupidity, which means that we can't see the truth of things) makes us unable to see the causal relationship of things, so we continue this seemingly deserved consumption-oriented life with peace of mind, but we don't know that the slight flap of a butterfly's wings has triggered a storm in the world.

? Destroying nature is actually destroying our living environment. Nature has given us many warnings. After cutting down trees, the incidence of cancer has increased, and countless precious animals have become extinct ... but nature seems to be inexhaustible, not to mention "a hundred-footed insect dies without being stiff", so we think we can take it indefinitely, but it is too late to punish ourselves or future generations! Isn't this just from the ignorance that human beings can't see the truth?

? We will never return to the simple, simple and quiet life in the natural economy era. Mankind has entered this historical stage, but we must find a way out for our own destiny, and the fundamental way out lies in whether we can restrain our inner greed, otherwise mankind and nature will go to destruction.

Of course, the benefits of wanting less and getting satisfaction outweigh the disadvantages for human society. Don't rule out that some people go to extremes and say, am I not good at anything? Isn't that more thorough? People can't live without desire at all. Before the supreme awakening, the Buddha practiced asceticism like a Hindu ascetic monk, which was an ascetic life without food and water. After six years of asceticism, the Buddha was skinny and almost starved to death, and was finally saved by a herder with chyle. The Buddha thus realized that asceticism was not conducive to monasticism.

? Therefore, in Buddhism, people's desires are divided into three kinds-good, evil, forgetfulness and different treatment. There are three poisons of greed and ignorance in good desires, and three poisons of greed and ignorance in evil desires, while the desire without memory is neither greedy nor ignorant. Eating, drinking, dressing and heating should belong to the desire without memory, but as long as greed works, these desire without memory may turn into evil desire at any time.

? Simply drink a glass of water, choose boiled water, oolong tea, mineral water or Paris water? Boiling water is too low, making tea is troublesome, you can't buy it near the water in Paris, so drink mineral water, and so on. Which one? Is it cheaper like ice dew or Baisui Mountain? It's so tangled Buying a dress is fashionable, good quality, warm and cheap, and it can't conflict with colleagues, so shopping malls rummage through Taobao and brush it all over, wasting countless time and energy and can't buy the right one.

Think about whether we often suffer from this kind of "choice phobia"? At this time, notice that the desire to forget has become an evil desire, because these basic needs of life have become the cause of trouble because of greed. Therefore, desire should not be banned. For ordinary people, it is only necessary to carry forward good desires, maintain no desires and give up evil desires.

? That day, I saw a stray dog drinking rainwater accumulated by the roadside, probably because he was thirsty. He drank so hard that the sound of licking water with his tongue could be heard far away, like the purest music in nature. It suddenly occurred to me that how long has it been since I felt the sweetness of a glass of white water intently? A meal, a vegetable, a drink and a kiss are all happiness. Appreciate what you have now, slow down the pace of chasing outside and calm down. You will find that happiness is very simple, and minimalism is to return to the most essential state of human beings.
