Hello, reporter Yan Dongxue!

After reading your article "Trial of Dr. Liu" published in China Newsweek (2009029), I have to say that there are major mistakes in this article and many articles have been analyzed.

The media finally voiced, and China Newsweek distorted the "trial of Liu Taiyi"

As an authoritative media with extensive influence, China Newsweek has made such a great mistake, which is regrettable. Moreover, this article was reprinted by many important media, which had a very bad influence. I am afraid that after the truth of the case comes out, the relevant media will be quite passive.

I will talk about the reasons for these major mistakes from three aspects: authenticity, fairness and public opinion orientation of news reports, for your reference, and hope to improve them in new follow-up reports.

The authenticity of news reports

(1) Journalists should be responsible for the truthfulness and accuracy of their reports. The report must be based on facts, and it is not allowed to fabricate news, distort or exaggerate facts.

The beginning of this article is {February 65438, 2007. In the series of articles on "Crazy Health" in the 47th issue of China Newsweek, our reporter once exposed that Liu Hongzhang and his son were not "in trouble" but were at the peak of their careers in the form of "Dr. Liu". More than a year has passed, and this magazine has received several calls and visits from people who have received "the kindness of treating Tai". Surprisingly, some of the visitors even realized that they had been cheated, but they still tried to defend Dr. Liu. I hope this magazine can tell them that there is still some truth in Dr. Liu's theory-they just want to be cheated again. }

This passage clearly shows that the reporter has reached a conclusion before the investigation, and it is difficult to guarantee objectivity and authenticity with preconceived views. In addition, the logic of this passage is also problematic. Why does a person who already "knows that he has been cheated" defend "Dr. Liu"? How did the "victim" become a "doctor too fan" again?

(2) Information sources must be true and reliable. It is necessary to go deep into the news scene to collect first-hand information to ensure the accuracy of news elements; Unconfirmed information should be explained; In addition to the need to keep information confidential, the source of information should also be indicated in the report.

After reading the original text of "Trial of Dr. Liu", the main description of the case in the article basically comes from the Food and Drug Administration. The procuratorate and the court, the two departments with the most authoritative knowledge of the case, seem to have said nothing.

Judging from this case, the Food and Drug Administration was the first person to identify "Liu Taiyi" as manufacturing and selling counterfeit drugs. However, he did not participate in the investigation and trial of the case by the procuratorate after filing the case. The information provided by the Food and Drug Administration is at least not the latest, and the description of the case is not the first-hand information. Since it is a "trial" of Dr. Liu, the information about the trial of this case is the most important news element. Except for the word "a little sensitive" said by the Propaganda Department of Tanggu Court, the reporter did not get the first-hand information.

(3) Carefully verify the contents of the report, including basic facts, background information and quoted language. Materials such as sounds, images, data and document excerpts used in the manuscript should be true, accurate, scientific and unified.

Regarding the verification of the contents of the case report, it seems that the reporter did not verify it except for all the statements made by the Food and Drug Administration.

For example, Dr. Liu Taiyi's medicine is counterfeit. Except that "Tianjin specifically pointed out in his reply that Liu's behavior belongs to manufacturing and selling counterfeit drugs", no concrete evidence was seen to prove it. Have you done composition analysis and efficacy investigation on specific drugs?

The article later said that "according to the current drug testing standards, samples can only be tested against the existing standards to see if the samples meet the standards." The medicine sold by Liu Hongzhang is a homemade fake medicine with unknown ingredients. There is no standard for it in the Pharmacopoeia, so the Institute for Drug Control cannot detect its components. "If the drug is Chinese medicine, it can't be detected, but it doesn't mean it is a fake medicine. This is tantamount to overthrowing the previous statement.

For another example, the report quoted Chen Zujia's article "Liu Taiyi killed my sister", which did not seem to be verified by the victim's family. You can read what Wang Gang, the son of Chen Zujia's sister, said in an open letter.

(4) The details in the report must be true, without exaggeration, imagination and exaggeration. The sound and images used in the report should come from the news scene or editing activities related to the theme of the report, rather than being fabricated or spliced by individuals.

The author seems to pay insufficient attention to important details, and there are many contradictions about important facts in the article. For example:

The US Food and Drug Administration handed over the case to the public security department for the crime of manufacturing and selling counterfeit drugs, and the court finally filed a lawsuit for the crime of illegal business operation. Six months later, on May 20, 2009, the Tanggu District People's Procuratorate filed a public prosecution, and the Tanggu Court tried the two men for "manufacturing and selling fake and inferior products". }

So is the charge of prosecution suspected of "producing and selling counterfeit drugs" or "illegal business" or "producing and selling fake and inferior products"?

The case also involves some legal knowledge, and the reporter made a wrong description. For example, "medical parole" can only be applied to people who want to serve their sentences, and it is impossible for an undecided criminal suspect to "seek medical parole". It is also wrong to say that if there is only one supplementary investigation, the court must pronounce the sentence within six months after accepting the case. For public prosecution cases, the law requires the court to pronounce a sentence within two and a half months.

The report will inevitably encounter some professional problems. This kind of low-level mistake can be avoided if you can seriously consult relevant experts.

(5) When reporting, explaining, explaining and commenting on facts, we should fully grasp and correctly reflect the essence and mainstream of social life, and avoid making the public's judgment on things biased or wrong due to superficial and one-sided reports.

When describing Dr. Liu's supporters, the reporter used many strange words, such as "hardcore fan of Dr. Liu", "victim" and "believer", which is obviously biased and misleading.

{These e-mails come from Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Jilin, and the senders are different, but the form of the e-mails is highly unified: they are all sent by EMS express, and the letters are all two pages, all printed, all covered outside the EMS blue express envelope, and even the binding position is one centimeter away from the upper left corner. The letter and EMS envelope are nailed together with staples. Express mail with such consistent appearance looks like multiple births coming out of mother's stomach. }

What does this passage mean? Want to tell the public that these letters were written by the same person? It seems that no one will order letters other than express envelopes, right? "The binding position is one centimeter from the upper left corner. Letters and EMS envelopes are all stapled together." This should be done by the archivist of the Food and Drug Administration, right?

Fairness of news reports

(1) Journalists should adhere to the objective and fair professional concept and the professional spirit of going deep into reality, investigating and studying, being loyal to facts and pursuing truth.

From the article "Trial of Dr. Liu", we can clearly see that the author is biased, and such a report is difficult to be fair.

(2) Adhere to the principle of accurate, fair, comprehensive and objective reporting. Don't report the interests of individuals or small groups that affect the public interest.

In 2007, you reported "Dr. Liu" and called him a liar. Do not rule out the possibility of continuing the tone of previous reports from the perspective of safeguarding their own interests.

(3) Distinguish between reporting facts and evaluating facts, and do not publish comments or guesses as confirmed facts.

This is your biggest problem. There are too many such questions in the report.

For example, the most critical issue in the "Dr. Liu case" is counterfeit drugs? The US Food and Drug Administration did not provide the fact that the drug was counterfeit. "This medicine is counterfeit" should only be a description of the Food and Drug Administration.

(4) Case reporting should not affect judicial justice and legal judgment. Not favoring any party in the lawsuit; No conviction or qualitative report shall be made before the judgment of the case; Do not make unannounced visits to trial activities; The reported cases heard in public shall comply with the relevant laws and regulations.

Needless to say, this. The report directly called "Dr. Liu" a liar.

(5) Avoid discrimination of any race, sex, age, occupation, religious belief, education level and place of residence.

Obviously, the reporter used the discriminatory word "believer" for the supporters of "Dr. Liu".

Public opinion orientation of news reports

Authenticity and impartiality are the basic principles of reporting. In addition to authenticity and impartiality, the greater responsibility of the news media lies in adhering to the correct direction of public opinion. Simply put, it is to help all parties concerned communicate and understand, which is conducive to solving problems, rather than creating contradictions and provoking troubles.

(1) Journalists should have a sense of politics, overall situation and responsibility, and adhere to the correct direction of public opinion.

At present, China's medical and health undertakings are facing severe challenges. Medical expenses are rising, but the incidence of chronic diseases is still rising, and poverty caused by illness and lack of people and money are constantly happening. Celebrities continue to die of cancer after paying sky-high medical expenses.

In this context, the State Council issued the State Council Document No.22, proposing to support, encourage and protect the development of Chinese medicine, speed up the formulation of relevant laws and regulations, give full play to the advantages of Chinese medicine, and make due contributions to people's health. "Dr. Liu" is a typical case of "illegal medical practice" in traditional Chinese medicine. How to judge may determine the development direction of traditional Chinese medicine.

The reporter's report on this case was untrue and unfair, which did not play a good role in guiding public opinion.

(2) When reporting major events, social hotspots and sensitive issues, we should pay attention to the discretion, timing and intensity, solve doubts and doubts, and actively guide them. Do not speculate, deliberately create public opinion "hot spots" and mislead the audience.

But Song was not the only believer. A hundred-page remittance record records the worship of medical seekers all over the country. These money orders range from 2,000 to tens of thousands, and the owners come from a biological research institute, environmental science information center, health supervision office, county people's hospital, government civil air defense office, water conservancy bureau, daily newspaper, public security bureau, finance department ... there is also a village in a township, a middle school canteen in a county, and a retirement recreation room for old workers. ...

This is not appropriate. Calling the supporters of Dr. Liu all over the country "believers" and "worships" implies that these people are superstitious. This is suspected of much ado about nothing. Isn't this intended to provoke them and create social problems?

It is reasonable and legal to report the situation to the party, government and judicial organs through the internet and other channels, and it is also the right and obligation of every citizen. We should not deliberately stir up trouble with suggestive words and endanger social harmony.

The article "Trial of Doctor Liu" also has some highlights.

I compared your article in 2007 with this article now, and there is still progress. The biggest highlight is that you also interviewed a "fan" of Dr. Liu and devoted a chapter to the report. Although the words are biased, they reveal some facts after all. From this point of view, it is more comprehensive and progressive than the report two years ago.
