Book of rites? Random talk on Xue Ji 18
Original text:

The gentleman said: Great virtue is not an official, the road is not a device, great faith is not kept, and the times are uneven. Observe these four things, and you can be interested in this. It was also the first and last time that the Three Kings offered sacrifices to Sichuan. Or source of goods, or commission, this is called service book!

Precautions:

1 Dade is not an official: the virtue of a saint is grand and does not favor officials;

2 avenue non-device: the avenue body is not biased towards the main device;

3 big letters don't keep promises: feel things sincerely, don't wait for an offer, people believe them;

(4) Uneven timing: At four o'clock on the day, Xia Dong was wrong, and there was no uniformity, and the soldiers did not turn back.

⑤ Source: Source. The Yellow River is the source of water.

6 Committee: Collection. The ocean is a gathering place for water.

Explanation:

This is the last paragraph at the end of Xue Ji, which is obviously influenced by Taoist thought. The gentleman said, "Virtue is not an official, the avenue is not a tool, faith is not kept, and the times are not uniform." This is the iconic sentence pattern of Tao Te Ching, which immediately reminds people that "the elephant is invisible and has a good voice." Everything with the word "big" transcends the concrete thing itself and rises to the metaphysical level. Elephants are no longer ordinary elephants, and they are inseparable from ordinary elephants, so they can't be seen or touched; The big sound is no longer an ordinary sound, and it is inseparable from the ordinary sound, so I hope to make a sound. As soon as this posture comes out, it is to raise "learning" to the height of philosophy.

Virtue is not official. "Official" is a concrete matter, and "virtue" is the enlightenment to "Tao". This refers to the reasons why specific matters can be established and the principles that must be followed in specific operations. The "virtue" behind different specific affairs is interlinked, and all officials belong to one virtue, which is great virtue, so it is said that great virtue is not an official.

True leaders are not limited by their functions or industries. They can lead the sales team, R&D team, build cars and open supermarkets, because the reason behind the specific business is the same, that is, they are not officials.

The avenue is useless. Metaphysical refers to the Tao, while physical refers to the device. "Tao" belongs to the conceptual world, and "Qi" belongs to the real world. Tao and implement are not at the same level. "Tao" is scattered in various devices, and "device" is the expression of "Tao" in specific situations, so Tao is not a device.

Daxin does not promise. China people pay attention to one word memory, and dare not express their opinions easily. Once they talk, it's an agreement. China people believe in character at heart, but they don't attach much importance to written contracts.

Confucius traveled around the world and once passed by Pucheng, Wei, and happened to meet the rebellion of Wei nobles. Confucius and his party were besieged by rebels. Fortunately, disciple Ruligang Gong tried his best to protect them, and Pucheng rebels were a little timid, demanding that Confucius be released as long as he swore not to defend his country. After taking the oath, Confucius left the East Gate and went straight to defend the country. Zi Gong asked Confucius, Teacher, didn't we just take an oath? Confucius said, "If you want to form an alliance, God will not listen." It means that the oath made by threats doesn't count.

Therefore, great faith actually refers to internal integrity, which has nothing to do with external contracts. Mencius said, "My Lord, you don't have to believe what you say, and you don't have to do what you do. What is righteousness?" Righteousness is Kant's "internal moral law" and a contract we make with ourselves in our hearts.

When you get older, it will be uneven. Time is an artificial concept and a psychological illusion. "Big time" is not the time on the clock, but the internal rhythm of the evolution of things. Whether it is summer or winter, you won't follow the clock, but you must know that winter is not far from spring.

The purpose of listing these four phenomena is to prove that "learning" is at the same level as morality, Taoism, faithfulness and timeliness. It transcends all kinds of concrete activities of human beings and is a bridge between the metaphysical and the metaphysical world.

Learning is a great virtue and a meta-ability behind various specific transactional abilities. As the last article said, "knowledge is not suitable for the five senses, and the five senses are incurable."

Learning is also a road, which is scattered in all human activities and is the starting point and destination of various activities.

Learning is also a great belief. As the tree, so the fruit. You'll naturally get something then.

Learning is also a big time, with its own internal rhythm. Follow the rhythm, get twice the result with half the effort, go against the rhythm, get twice the result with half the effort.

Let's talk about the way of university at the beginning. The word "big" was received at the end, which not only echoed the beginning, but also sublimated the end.

Observe these four things, and you can be interested in this. This is learning, and "interested in it" is to echo the opening argument that "building citizens, teaching first." The good article is like this, the leopard head and the phoenix tail.

It was also the first and last time that the Three Kings offered sacrifices to Sichuan. Or source of goods, or commission, this is called service book!

Xia, Shang and Zhou kings sacrificed rivers first, then the sea. The Yellow River is the source of water and the sea is the destination of the river. Although the river is small, it is the foundation. Although the sea is big, it is at the end. This is the so-called "service foundation".

Grasping "learning" means grasping the root of all human activities. Learning seems dispensable. When doing specific work, we often get quick success and instant benefit, pay too much attention to the results, but forget to learn. However, once the study is absent, all activities will be eclipsed. Learning is both a means and an end, so the ancients said, "Listen to the Tao in the morning and die."

Postscript:

Finally finished! The first time I experienced writing a debt, posting the first article meant that I owed 17 of the debt. At one time, I was under great pressure, but fortunately it was all over.

This writing process once again proves that sharing is an advanced form of learning. None of the articles in 18 were written and shared after I fully understood them. Every article is like writing a paper, growing bit by bit. If you don't force yourself to write it down, many feelings will be extinguished in an instant like Mars, and the cognitive upgrade will not be completed.

2 1 century is the century of China, not because of how capable we are, but because our ancestors left us too thick a family background. Now the whole world is interested in China culture, but strangely, China people themselves are not interested. Perhaps this is an example of usability bias. Our own things are not rare, but those in other people's pots smell good.

You might say, these so-called classics are antiques from 2000 years ago. Do they have anything to do with modern life? I didn't know the classics for many years, so I lived well, didn't I?

What you said is! Even if you read four books and five classics, no one will give you a raise, you can't be beautiful, you can't keep in good health, and not many people even like to listen to the conversation after dinner. What's the use of learning classics?

But to put it another way, what is life? This pile of meat? Flesh is just a container, commonly known as rotten skin. What's in the skin? Why on earth should we feed this skin? I've been waiting for this thing all my life, and I've never opened it to see what's inside. Are you sorry?

If you agree that human beings are a whole, even all things are one, then it means that you also agree that we carry energy and information from the whole. If you believe that life is a continuum, it means that you also believe that we are drifting down the river of time with ancient energy and information and will continue to pass it on through us. These are all things in the container. The next step is personal choice, is to live a life of skins? Or are you interested in decoding this information from ancient times? Release the energy of our ancestors? If you are interested, the key is hidden in the classic.

Zhuangzi said that "useless is useful", and China's classics are such useless things.

Is it difficult to learn classics? Not difficult. Accurately speaking, it is not difficult to practice and learn classics. Of course, I have violated Mr. Yang Ming's teaching of "unity of knowledge and action". What I want to say is that as long as you start learning, you will naturally enter the whirlpool of knowing and doing. Getting started is not difficult, but the depth of the vortex is different.

In my personal experience, learning classic reading is the key. Read a book a hundred times, and its meaning will appear. If you understand it, you will naturally remember it. Memory is the foundation of all abilities, and innovation grows from the soil of memory. There are not many introductory books. Personally, I think four books plus Laozi is enough, and five books add up to less than 60 thousand words. There are many notes about these articles, which Baidu can find casually and it is not difficult to read. After reading these articles, it is easy to read others.

Let's stop here. I am grateful to have you with me on the way to study classics. Looking forward to more colleagues.
