Because of its great role, Ai has been endowed with many reputations by the ancients, such as respecting the elderly for Ai, describing young and beautiful women as "less Ai", maintaining it as "protecting Ai" in the Book of Songs and writing "Ai An" in Historical Records, which shows the deep love of the ancients for Ai.

Zong Zhuo, a scholar in the Southern Dynasties, recorded in the Chronicle of Jingchu that on the fifth day of May, "when the chicken is not crowing, it is very effective to take it as a human being." On this day, Ai Cai became a human figure and hung on the door, fighting against poisonous gas. "

In addition, people often put wormwood, calamus, realgar and sandalwood in small cloth bags to make sachets, tie them on their bodies with colored threads and hang them on them for health. People believe that wormwood also has the function of attracting hundreds of blessings.
