Yaowang Tea is the leaves and flowers of Potentilla plants in Rosaceae, also known as "Guanyin Tea (Taibai Mountain) and Yaowang Tea (Qinling Mountain)". It is recorded that "young leaves can be used as tea, leaves can be used as medicine, and they can clear away heat and strengthen the stomach, regulate menstruation, and dry products can be decocted to treat dizziness, disharmony between stomach and qi, food stagnation, irregular menstruation of women, etc."
Why is it called Wang Yaocha?
It is said that Sun Simiao is an herbalist. He has tasted all kinds of herbs and knows their properties and tastes. According to legend, once he was collecting herbs on a hillside about 2800 meters above sea level in Taibai Mountain, and suddenly he felt thirsty, so he sat down on a stone to have a rest. He saw a dense green bush around him. He picked some leaves and tasted them. As soon as he entered the door, he felt refreshed and shocked. He hurried to get water, put the leaves in a cup and fried them on a stone with firewood. It feels refreshing and soothing, better than fragrant tea. He was so happy that he picked more of this leafy flower and brought it back to his residence. After repeated decocting, the effect is proved to be very good. He used this leaf as tea for patients and cured many people's diseases at the same time. Sun Simiao summarized and recorded the function of this treasure, which is also medicine and tea, and recommended that it be included in the tribute to the officials and people. Since then, he has been drinking this kind of tea for health. Later generations named this plant "Wang Yaocha" in memory of Sun Simiao.
In Taibai Mountain area of Qinling Mountains, Wang Yaocha has a long history. It is used by villagers and herbalists as a beverage and a product for curing diseases and prolonging life. Its efficacy is unique, comprehensive and magical, such as the nectar given to the world by Guanyin Bodhisattva, so it is also called "Guanyin tea".
