In the counter of sugar-free food, some sugar-free food packages are marked with the words "sucrose-free". When selling products, the sales staff in the mall declared: "These sugar-free foods do not contain sugar, so diabetics can safely eat them without affecting blood sugar." Are these sugar-free foods really sugar-free?
"sucrose-free" ≠ "sugar-free"
The Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China issued the General Rules for the Management of Nutrition Labeling in prepackaged foods in October 20 10/0. This standard is a compulsory national standard and will be officially implemented in June 20 13+ 10. According to the general principle, the sugar content of foods claiming to be "sugar-free" or "sugar-free" should not exceed 0.5g per 100g, and the sugar content of foods claiming to be "low-sugar" should not exceed 5g per100g.
The sugar mentioned here refers not only to sucrose, but also to other monosaccharides and disaccharides such as glucose and maltose (excluding macromolecules such as starch). Therefore, "sucrose-free" and "sugar-free" cannot be equated.
Although some foods are labeled as "sucrose-free", they may still contain fructose, maltose and other ingredients. Maltose, like sucrose, can be converted into glucose in human body. Excessive consumption will also lead to an increase in blood sugar, which may cause harm to diabetic patients. Therefore, fructose and maltose are both ingredients that diabetic patients should control their intake. According to the requirements of national standards, foods marked as "sucrose-free" cannot be called "sugar-free", which is easy to mislead consumers.
Many sugar-free pastry foods contain a lot of carbohydrates. Carbohydrate will be converted into glucose in human body, and a large amount of it will still have adverse effects on the health of diabetic patients. Therefore, diabetic patients should properly control the intake of carbohydrates to prevent blood sugar from exceeding the standard. Even sugar-free foods, diabetics should adhere to the habit of eating less and eating more meals and control the intake of sugar.
When eating foods rich in carbohydrates, it is best to eat foods rich in dietary fiber, such as oatmeal and fresh vegetables, to slow down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, prevent blood sugar from rising too fast, and keep blood sugar stable.
Some companies advertise that sugar-free foods can lower blood sugar, which is completely deceptive! Blood sugar will rise after eating all the food. Sugar-free food is also a kind of food, but it contains no sugar or almost no sugar, which can help control blood sugar, but it can never replace injections and medicine.
Patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes must be treated according to the doctor's advice. People at high risk of diabetes should also be careful. Don't think that eating sugar-free food can help you control your diet, strengthen exercise, and your blood sugar will be well controlled.
Message from Bian Xiao: Diabetic patients should control their diet in time under the guidance of doctors to prevent their condition from getting worse. Some so-called "sugar-free foods" on the market should also be eaten after consulting a doctor.
