What is a real yoga practice?
There are many people around us who call themselves yoga practitioners. They only do yoga postures on the yoga mat, and they have all kinds of bad habits in their lives. In fact, they haven't really practiced yoga, but they are just using yoga postures to keep fit. Yoga is not only a scientific and effective fitness method. Of course, practicing yoga can lose weight and keep fit, which is understandable, but it is only a by-product of yoga. Thousands of years ago, patanjali wrote the Yoga Sutra, from ancient times to the present. Systematic methods for yoga practitioners. Among them, the eight steps of yoga practice are exact and clear. Eight steps of yoga practice: 1.yama (code of ethics) 2.niyama (self-control) 3.asana (posture practice) 4. Pratyahara (consciousness control, returning to the heart) 6 .7. Zen (meditation) 8. Samadhi (Samadhi) But here we are. Two branches, Yamaraja (moral code) and Ma Niya (self-control), don't hurt others, don't cheat people, don't mess up ... and so on. Firstly, the two branches are divided into the following categories: 1, Yamaraja, which means what we shouldn't do, including non-violence; Staja; Do not steal (asteya); Don't indulge in brahmacharya; Aparigraha)2. Self-control (Ma Niya) refers to what we should do, including physical and mental cleanliness (shaucha), contentment (santosha), self-discipline (tapas) and learning (swadhyaya). There are many people around us who call themselves yoga practitioners. They only do yoga postures on the yoga mat, so I don't have to have all kinds of bad habits in my life. In fact, they haven't started yoga yet, they are just working out. Yoga is a noble system, which teaches us how to be a man, cultivate positive results, strengthen our bodies through posture and breathing, restore our senses, gradually improve our concentration, meditate and finally achieve the pleasant realm of emancipating the spirit and self-awareness. If practitioners don't follow moral principles and self-control to lay a good foundation for practice and life, posture training is just like acrobatics ... On the other hand, posture fitness is also good, but some people's postures have nothing to do with real yoga practice ... If life is a game, Yamaraja (moral principles) and Ma Niya (self-control) are the rules of the game for yoga practitioners. Knowing the rules will make you play smoothly. If everyone follows the rules of the game in this way, how harmonious and beautiful the world will be. Of course, yoga also needs diligent and self-disciplined practice, which will be healthy for your body and mind and guide you to gradually concentrate. Reduce distractions and gradually taste the sweet fruits of yoga, such as concentration and meditation. But it is impossible to be realistic without moral principles and the basis of self-control. The other six branches are gradual and interrelated. When you are in a posture, your body is stable and comfortable, and your thoughts and breathing are stable and comfortable, you will enter the state of pranayama. If you have ideas but don't agree with them and are not influenced by them, then you enter the state of pratyaha-accept your heart and return. If you are aware of the external movement, but have no thoughts and thoughts, you enter a state of concentration. If you are completely unaware of external movements, you enter a state of meditation. When you no longer have the idea of "I am" or "yes"-then Samadhi-Samadhi, superconsciousness and ecstasy appear. (Description is taken from Osho's book Yoga). These are the eight steps of yoga. They are interrelated and step by step. You must take it step by step, you can't give up halfway. You must start by observing the first step-discipline, and the second step-self-discipline-the basis of yoga practice. Without a foundation, you will achieve nothing, even a small achievement, which is harmful to people around you and yourself. If you just want to do yoga, you can just practice your posture. It is beyond reproach that not every yogi has to reach samadhi now. But the real yoga practice is to pursue the samadhi realm and enjoy the fruits of yoga. If you want to be a professional yogi, we should understand this. I remember a western yogi said, "posture induces us to go deep into yoga …" Clean posture can not only strengthen our bodies, but also clean our nervous system and mind. K. pattabhi jois, a yoga master in Astaga, said, "Do your exercises and everything will follow." Posture practice is the basis of yoga practice, but it is only an important part, not an end.
