Is golf an Olympic sport?
Why is golf not included in the Olympic Games [2911] (2007-08-14)? It is less than a year before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. All parts of the country are welcoming this global sports event with great fanfare. We are happy, we dream, but as golf lovers, we feel a little lonely: why is there no golf competition in the Olympic Games? Although the official enthusiasm for the return of golf to the Olympic Games is high, and the International Golf Federation (IGF) has always supported the return of golf to the Olympic Games, golf has not been allowed to be listed as an Olympic event so far. At the second Paris Olympic Games held in 1900, golf with a history of more than 600 years became an Olympic event. Golf was also planned as an Olympic event in 1908, 19 16 and 1996, but in 1920, golf was changed to an Olympic ornamental event. Today, the golf world and the Olympic Games have become a global sports carnival. However, golf has not yet reached the Olympic stage again. What is the reason? I think there are roughly the following points-1. Qualification. According to the Olympic Charter revised in February 1999, only sports widely played by men in at least 75 countries or regions and women in at least 40 countries and regions and three continents can be included in the Summer Olympic Games. Only sports widely played in at least 25 countries or regions and 3 continents can be included in the Winter Olympics. Golf has been popularized in western countries, but it is only an aristocratic sport that burns money in developing countries. It is estimated that IOC officials will not turn a deaf ear to this. 2. Bonus issue. Compared with the millions of dollars in prize money at each stop, Olympic medals may not attract top athletes. Nick Fardeau, a famous soldier, seems a little indifferent: "The Olympic Games is for medal competition, not for bonuses." Peter Dawson, secretary of the St Andrews Club, believes that the participation of professional players has a decisive influence on the issue of return. Bonus is the most important bait whether professional athletes are willing to participate in the Olympic Games. For the Olympic Games, golf will truly return to the Olympic family only when the Olympic golf competition represents the highest competitive level in the world. 3. Player problem. The consequence is that many top professional players are unwilling to participate. Tiger woods said frankly: "For professional players, it is self-evident which is more important, the Olympic gold medal or the Grand Slam champion. I think they will all choose the latter. " Once a similar situation occurs, the level and appreciation of Olympic golf will be greatly reduced, and sponsors will also withdraw. Dawson, president of the International Golf Association, expressed concern: "If only amateurs participate, the Olympic golf competition will become hopeless." It is not difficult to understand the fate of tennis as a chicken rib in the Olympic Games. 4. Site problem. If the Olympic Games want to add golf events, it seems acceptable that the host city that keeps rotating needs to build top-class golf courses in the world. However, problems followed. Once a precedent is set, golf courses may blossom everywhere in China. But for China, Indian and other developing countries with large population and shortage of cultivated land, it seems that building a large building for golf is not popular. Now many people are still struggling for food and clothing. If you see a large area of land turned into a paradise for a few people, it may arouse the hatred of the rich. Many people compare golf to "green opium", which has both advantages and disadvantages. 5. Talent problem. The characteristics of golf itself also determine that its degree of marketization and commercialization is the highest among all projects. Golf competition involves personnel training and venue construction. Because of the huge cost, many developing countries can't bear the huge cost of popularizing golf talents only by the government. In addition, the contestants also need huge fees. Except for Zhang and Liang Wenchong, other contestants in China can get some sponsorship, and it is not easy to win financial support from merchants because of the urgent need to improve their technical level. And how can I participate in the competition without financial support? Let alone go abroad and become one of the highest places in the world. 6. replace. There are at most 28 sports in the Olympic Games. Only when there are vacancies in existing sports can new sports be accepted. The elimination of an Olympic event will be opposed by many countries, and the resistance is naturally great. In June 2002, the International Olympic Committee proposed to exclude modern pentathlon, softball and baseball from the Olympic Games, but it was rejected because of opposition. A few years ago, it was rumored that golf and martial arts might replace modern pentathlon and softball in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, but the International Olympic Committee made it clear that the Beijing Olympic Games would remain unchanged. 20 12 London Olympic Games remains unchanged. 7. Image problem. Mr. He, a member of the International Olympic Committee, believes that from the origin of golf, it is actually a civilian sport. However, there are too few popular golf courses in developing countries, which makes people feel that golf is high consumption. Therefore, we should give golf its original features, its original fitness function and noble leisure fitness purpose to meet the needs of all walks of life. If you still stay in the aristocratic stage, you will inevitably deviate from your own value and get no public support. This requires that golfers should not be narcissistic, let alone turn the golf course into a paradise. 8. Love issues. The love problem of golf was exposed by 7. Western golf should contribute to the economic development of most developing countries. It is difficult for poor developing countries to promote golf to the general public in a short time. If golf wants to knock on the door of the Olympic Games, I'm afraid it should break in and make more contributions to the society on the principle of no distinction between north and south, no distinction between men and women. Don't just look at the rich people completely blind, wave your hand and hit a shot wholeheartedly, learn from the experience of mass sports such as football and basketball, and really do a good job in golf public relations. Send warm for civilians is worth a thousand words.
