According to historical records, more than 2,000 years ago, supported by tides, the Yangtze River turned to the south and merged with Qiantang River to form land, so it was called Nanhuizui. Things are different, and the geographical location of Nanhuizui continues to extend to the southeast. 1386, the Ming government built a city here to prevent Japanese invasion, which is today's huinan town; Today's "Nanhuizui" is built on a beach filled with sand, which was still a sea surface a few years ago.
Because most areas of Lingang New Town are reclaimed from the sea, the embossed landscape wall of Guan Hai Park in Nanhuizui deliberately left this kind of "memory": dark mud blowing pipes, rough reclaimed stones and seabed sediments collected in the glass pyramid, which truly recorded the hardships of the project; The stainless steel plate is printed with the information photos and vivid sculptures of the builders who reclaimed land from the sea, showing the thrilling construction at that time.
The iconic sculpture of the whole park is a double-layer grid structure "Sina" made of stainless steel pipes. As the earliest compass in the world, it symbolizes discovery, communication and openness here. On the south side of the "Sina" sculpture is the "World Orientation Jingwei Memorial Square", and its center is the "Nanhuizui Coordinate Point Logo", which echoes the main sculpture of Sina. The square is surrounded by city coordinates, which are engraved with the latitude and longitude of the world's top ten port cities. Connecting the memorial square is a landscape terrace with the theme of "development", which is arranged as a geometric plant terrace, reflecting the spirit of order, rationality and science.
"Sina" is like a whale. The facade of the iconic sculpture "Sina" is like a silver mountain, symbolizing solemnity and wealth; The side elevation looks like a giant whale, which not only symbolizes the majesty of Lingang New Town and the huge cargo throughput of Shanghai International Shipping Center, but also commemorates a true story: in the early stage of the construction of Lingang New Town in August 2003, a whale cub more than 4 meters long ran aground on the beach. Dozens of migrant workers rescued it to the nearby Dishui Lake under construction. Because experts think that it is not qualified to "adopt" this whale, people put it back into the sea safely. When the calf returned to the sea, it stuck its head out of the sea three times in a row near Nanhuizui Park, as if thanking the benefactor who helped it.
