Foreigners greet me at the gym, and I guess I will say, "Can you speak Chinese?"

If the other person's answer is "yes", it will be easy. I can communicate with each other directly in Chinese.

If the other person's answer is "no", there is no way out. Just waving your hand shows that you don't know English.
