First introduction

Alex Browne Ning, a high school student, is boarding a plane to Paris with his French classmates. All passengers have boarded the plane and fastened their seat belts. A baby is crying and the plane is about to take off. Suddenly, Alex had a strong sense of foreboding. He seemed to see the plane explode in the air shortly after taking off and turn into a fireball. The frightened Alex made a scene and told everyone to leave the plane, which triggered a scuffle in the cabin. Finally, seven passengers, including Alex, were driven out of the cabin.

After returning to the airport, Alex was surrounded by six other passengers, including his friends Billy and Todd, a young girl named Claire, Carter and his girlfriend Terry who wrestled with Alex, and Luton, a female teacher who volunteered to stay and take care of Alex and other students.
