Apple's "health" app is an excellent tool to track the number of steps. Just make sure to connect to a reliable data source, such as a motion sensor or fitness tracker. Browse the activity data, tap the step, and then select "* * * Enjoy" to easily add the step information to the home screen.

Gently swipe right on the home screen to find the Widgets page. Click "Edit" at the bottom to find the "Health" gadget, add it and save it. Now, you can view the step information at any time on the home screen!
