As there have been many wars between Thailand and Cambodia, Khmer literati, artists and craftsmen captured in the war directly imported Khmer culture with strong Indian color into Thailand, thus forming an important foundation for the development of Thai dance culture. The influence of Khmer culture on Thai culture and art can be seen from the historical sites in lopburi area in central Thailand and northeast Bangkok.
With the development of history, influenced by geographical environment, social customs and the cultures of neighboring countries, Thai dance can be divided into two categories: drama dance and folk dance. These two kinds of dances laid the foundation of Thai traditional dance performance art and formed the Thai dance style seen today.
