He is a representative figure of the theory of Yin-Yang and Five Elements in Zou Yan during the Warring States Period. He was from China, a Qi man at the end of the Warring States Period. The dates of birth and death are unknown. It is inferred that he was born around 324 BC, died in 250 BC and lived for more than 70 years. According to legend, the cemetery is located in Haozhuang Village, Xianggongzhuang Town, Zhangqiu City, Shandong Province. The main theories are Five Elements Theory, Five Virtues Theory and Kyushu Theory. He is also a famous scholar in Gong Xue, Xia Ji. At that time, people called him "Tan", also known as Zou Zi, because he was "consistent in words and deeds". After Mencius, his activities were contemporary with those of Gong Sunlong and Lv Zhonglian.

He was awarded the rank of major general in 1955.
