Legend has it that there lived a carp essence in the mountains near Nanshan Lake. One year, the village was dry and there was no water to irrigate the farmland. So, the spring water accumulated in the mountain was collected into a stream by magic and poured down the mountain. Carp essence also turned to stone because of the general computer virus, and lay at the bottom of the spring forever. In those days, before the excavation of Nanshan Reservoir, people could still see strange fish-shaped stones in the pond, and a temple was built above the stones to show their admiration for carp essence. All this was smashed as capitalism during the Cultural Revolution, and now some broken fish stones have been found on the south side of Nanshan Lake.
