First of all, MDF
The full name is density fiberboard, which is made of wood and other plant fibers into powder and hot-pressed with glue.
Cut a piece of wood first, and grind it directly into pieces without peeling it. After washing, sieving, boiling and grinding, fine powder is finally obtained. Then put the powder into a big jar, add glue and stir, stir evenly, and precompress first. It can be seen that after preloading, it basically has a plate shape, which is particularly thick and needs to be cut into pieces.
Then put the thick plate into a multi-layer hanging cage, layer by layer, and hot-press it at a high temperature of 100 degrees. The pressure is generally 5 MPa, that is, 50 pressure, and the wood powder is compacted.
After hot pressing, the plate is obviously "slimming". Finally, the burr is sawed off and polished to make its surface smoother and stacked to complete the finished MDF product. In this picture, the texture of the board is dense and the wood content should be relatively high.
What is the density board for?
The density of MDF is also high or low, which is mostly used for home improvement. Also known as medium density fiberboard and medium density fiberboard, it is often used for 16, 18 and 20 thickness (unit mm).
Because the plate is pressed into solid porcelain, it is silky smooth inside and outside, easy to process, and then it is not difficult to paint and paste the skin. It is especially suitable for making cabinet doors with shapes, engravings and lines. American pastoral is the simplest, it is a little more troublesome to mix white oil with European classical, and melamine paper looks like solid wood grain.
The water resistance of MDF is relatively poor. When it is wet, it expands very quickly, and it will tilt up. Therefore, it is best not to use MDF in places that are prone to moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms, such as cabinets. It is not good to make good-looking cupboard doors and load-bearing cabinets. When it is deformed, the strength of the plate will drop rapidly.
Second, particleboard
It is very similar to MDF, except that MDF uses wood flour, and particleboard uses wood fiber, that is, shavings. Moreover, hot-pressed particleboard is only about 10, and its density is not as good as that of density board. Cut the cross section and you can see a hole in the middle.
Make shavings first, and the shavings should be sieved to separate the fine shavings from the coarse shavings. Then it was mixed with glue to make every piece of shavings stick well. Then lay shavings, roughly divided into three layers, with fine shavings on the upper and lower sides and coarse shavings in the middle, and pre-press after laying. Then it is also sent to the hanging cage for hot pressing, 10 pressure, 100 degree. After hot-pressing stacking, it is similar to density board. The finished particleboard is like this, and the quality of this picture is good. In the building materials market, particleboard is usually cheaper than MDF. For example, for a 2440* 1220* 16mm plain board, the starting price of particleboard is more than 70 yuan, generally around 100, and the starting price of density board is near 100, mostly above 100.
What pits may there be in MDF and particleboard?
The raw materials of these two kinds of plates are conifers, the best, and broadleaf trees are a little worse. However, in order to reduce the cost, most of the boards are not completely made of wood, and are doped with a lot of bagasse, straw, rice husk and other impurities, even completely used impurities, and even paper, waste furniture and building materials waste are broken and mixed. Because the density board is completely pulverized, the wood fiber length of particleboard is not more than 2 cm, which is very small, so most people can't tell whether it is grass or wood. For example, this particleboard is made of ordinary materials.
Third, particleboard
First of all, particleboard is particleboard. When consumers listen to particleboard, they think it is out of date and cheap, so merchants come up with a new name that sounds very high-end.
Then merchants always add the word "solid wood" to listen to it, calling it "solid wood particleboard". You can understand that solid wood particleboard is a kind of particleboard with relatively good quality without bagasse and grass residue, and it is also a man-made board, not a solid wood board (real solid wood is called "original board").
What is the particle board used for?
Because the interior of particleboard is staggered wood fibers and there is interaction between fibers, the board has good toughness, bending resistance, not easy to break, and can bear load, which is suitable for furniture cabinets; Moreover, particleboard is much lighter than MDF, which saves labor in processing, which is one of the reasons why particleboard is more popular than MDF now.
Particle board is a little more waterproof than density board for the same reason as the last one. Because there is a force between wood fibers, it will not expand when it absorbs water to a certain extent, at least not as fast as density board. At present, the cabinets of big-name cabinets are basically particle boards.
The surface layer of particleboard is still smooth, with a little concave-convex graininess at most, but the inner layer is not good. The fibers are criss-crossed, and the burrs are dug out (which is also the reason why particleboard is easy to burst when cutting), so it is difficult to cover or paste with paint. So particleboard is not easy to carve. If you make a cupboard door, it is generally a flat plate with melamine on both sides, and there is no redundant shape.
Now melamine technology is quite mature, and the imitation of log texture is very realistic, which makes people confused whether it is solid wood, veneer or sticker.
