The Historical Evolution of Xishen Township
Xishen Township is called Meizitan, also known as Xishen Beach. The mountain stream originated in Longfeng Township, Tongjiang County, and meandered through this place. Because the river flows back to Tuo to form a beach, there were plum trees on the river bank in the early years, so it was named Meizitan. On the left bank of the river 100 meters high, there is a temple called Meizi Temple. In the early years, the temple fair was designated as a collection, and materials exchange activities were selected, and stalls were set up to open stores. Emergency evacuation was arranged on the second, fifth and eighth days. Every summer, the river overflows, making it difficult for merchants to cross the river. There is another one under the Family Ancestral Temple in Hedong, which is in the same strain as the Plum Temple. After the stone bridge was built in the Ming Dynasty, the markets on both sides of the Taiwan Strait were merged into this town. In the first year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty, Zhang Bilu and Wanli of Taiping Township went to Rong and returned home in triumph, returning from Bazhou and passing through Meizitan for the night. Hearing the old name, the general thought he had won many battles and was overjoyed. How can he stay at the Plum Temple tonight? At dusk, the general paced silently in the yard. The next morning, he brushed his clothes and stayed. He felt relaxed and excited when he saw the magpie on the other side of the river. He couldn't help but blurt out, "This place is called the West Altar." Later, because of the homonym of "victory" and "spirit", there were four ancient temples facing each other: Meizi Temple, Wangye Temple, Jade Palace and Wenchang Palace. People think it is a field composed of temples, so the homonym should be called "Xishen Beach Field" and "Xishen Field", which are still in use today.
