Then, come with me to see the hair dance in Wa culture!
Hair-throwing dance, called "Hi at the western end of the manuscript" in Wa language, is a Wa folk dance popular in Yonghe Community (Yongrong Village), Mengdong Town, Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County, Lincang. Hair dance is a kind of self-entertainment dance widely spread among Wa women, which has been produced for a long time. Wa women like long hair since childhood, long hair is beautiful, and they are used to long hair shawls since childhood. This kind of dance is different from other dances. It does not dance when offering sacrifices to cows, when old people die, when building new houses and when celebrating weddings. In other seasons, you can dance this dance on any occasion.
Legend has it that Ye Dai, a Wa girl, and Yan Qi, a young man, fell in love. One day, they went up the mountain to pick bamboo shoots, and the spider web in the bamboo forest was covered with long hair with leaves. After coming back, they tried many methods, but failed to clean the cobwebs. Later, the clever Yanqi made a bamboo comb and gave it to Ye Dai. After combing her hair, she rinsed it with water, then dried it, and finally removed the cobwebs.
Every night, Yan Qi and Ye Dai sit under the Bai Yueguang, combing each other's hair with bamboo combs, telling about lingering, breezy, waist-high long hair dancing with the wind. The romance of combing one's hair with a bamboo comb soon spread throughout the villages of Awa Mountain. Later, girls all had bamboo combs, and girls and boys began to comb their hair with strings.
According to her own experience, Ye Dai also asked the girls to make a bun dance while singing, which was passed down from generation to generation to commemorate this meaningful event. The bun dance has become the happiest dance for Ahua girls.
Hair dance can be performed by two people or in a group, but the number of people must be even. Couples form a circle hand in hand, singing and dancing without musical instruments. After each lyric, you pull your hands tightly, lean back, then suddenly throw up your long hair and dance wildly from left to right, like a huge wave, giving people a kind of beautiful enjoyment.
In recent years, hair-throwing dance has been used by literary and art workers to dance with Mu, which has won many awards at home and abroad and has become one of the symbolic movements of Wa dance.
The Wa people often say that "you can sing if you can talk, and you can dance if you can walk". The original ecological dance of Wa nationality is like a living historical picture, telling people about the life style of primitive ancestors and showing their reverence for gods and life.
