I want to ask, why is my computer so slow?
The methods I introduced to you are all adjustments within the system architecture to make the system more suitable for your personal use habits, better serve you and improve your work efficiency. The feeling will be related to your system and configuration. I've tried all the methods here, and there must be some omissions. I will continue to introduce them one after another. Please post your welcome comments and help me to supplement them. thank you

First, the operation system slimming action, this time mainly aimed at 2000/XP.

1, after all kinds of software and hardware are installed properly, XP rarely needs to update files. Deleting system backup files: Start → Run → sfc.exe/Purge Cache can save nearly 3xxM.

2. Delete the driver.cab file in the driver backup: %windows%\driver cache\i386 directory, usually this file is 76M. This article is very popular on the Internet, but I strongly recommend novice friends, because it will be very troublesome for them to change the hardware and add drivers in the future. Friends with strong hands-on ability can try it. )

3. If you don't have the habit of reading help, delete everything in the Windows\help directory and kill it, which is nearly 4xM. (applicable to all systems)

4. Generally, after you log on to "WindowsUpdate" for online upgrade, you will find that there are many directories similar to $ ntuninstallq311889 $ in the system directory, all of which are temporary folders downstairs. Kill them all, 1x-3xM.

5. Turning off the "hibernation" function takes up too much space. Control Panel-Display-Screen Saver-Power-Sleep.

6. Uninstall uncommon components: use Notepad to modify windows\inf\sysoc.inf, use the find/replace function, enter and hide in the find box, and replace all with blanks. In this way, all the "hides" have been deleted. After saving, run "Add-Remove Program" and you will see many more options in "Add/Remove Windows Components". Delete games, code watches and other unused things. (Ha ha, but it is also very small. )

7. Delete the unused method 8xM under \windows\ime. (Make a backup before using this skill, and it is recommended that you operate with caution. )

8. If you use NTFS file system and feel that space is very tight, please enable the compression function of NTFS, which will also reduce the space by 2x%.

9. Turn off system restore (this function is a disaster for people like me who often download test software). Right-click "My Computer" on the desktop, select "Properties", find "System Restore" and select "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Hehe, you can save space again.

10, friends who are not often exposed to text typesetting and design can completely delete redundant fonts, which is quite obvious. Window/Font (Never delete "Song Ti" or "Song Ti&; New song style ")

1 1, I don't know how to set up the recycle bin. I suggest that you set it to "all partitions are unified", "delete directly" and "display dialog box when deleting", which will create a lot of space. If you need to transfer the files in the recycle bin, adjust his space appropriately. Now the hard disks are very large, and the 7 and 8 G systems waste too much space.

12. Move my documents and various temporary folders to other partitions. (In order to reduce the generation of disk fragments in the system partition and better back up files, many malicious programs and viruses are downloaded first and then entered the network real-time documents. )

A. "My Documents" transfer method: First, create a folder "My Documents" in the target partition, open the desktop My Documents Properties-Move-select the folder just created.

B First, create an Internet temporary file with the same name as above, and select the newly created folder in Control Panel -internet Options-Temporary File Settings-Move Folder.

C. Transfer of system variables: If Windows 98 users install the system on the C drive, the temporary files are stored in the C:\TEMP directory by default. We can change "set temp=C:temp" in AUTOEXEC. The BAT file is set to "set temp=D:temp" (where D:temp can be any existing folder on the hard disk partition) so that temporary files can be set on drive D. Windows 2000/XP users can open the System Properties and Advanced tabs and then click the Environment Variables button. First, in the System Variables window, click and select the variables whose paths need to be modified (in this case, "TEMP" and "TMP"). Because we are all logged in as users, we only need to change the user variables. System variables "temp" and "tmp" are listed here. By default, they are located in the user directory of the system installation disk. We can point this directory to the root directory of a partition instead of the installation disk, which can improve the efficiency of some systems. You can also manually delete the remaining files at any time. Select "Edit" under one of the points, keep the variable name unchanged, and enter the variable value, which is the default temporary file path, such as "D:\Temp". The directories of the two variables should be the same.

13. Close Dr.Watson: Enter "drwtsn32" command in "Start"-"Run" to bring up Dr.Watson in the system, and only keep the option of "Dump all thread contexts", otherwise the hard disk will be read for a long time and occupy a lot of space once the program goes wrong. If this has happened before, please look for the user.dmp file, which can save tens of MB of space after deletion.

14, in addition to the most commonly used tools, such as Office, install other application software on other disks (this is also good for reinstalling the system, which can save a lot of things and reduce the loss of files caused by improper software fault deletion).

If you can follow the above process, your original XP of 1.4G can be completely reduced to below 800.

Second, accelerate the plan.

1, no matter what kind of system, canceling the flashy theme function is the first choice for users who pursue performance (if you like beauty very much, you are not a performance enthusiast, it is not suitable for you). XP users suggest choosing the best performance, and the effect is obvious. Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance Settings-Choosing the best performance sacrifices a lot of aesthetics, but the effect is very good, which is still beautiful compared with 98. In addition, in all systems, set the desktop background and screen saver, uncheck the checkbox of "Show Web content on the active desktop" in the "Web" page, and uncheck "Animate menu and tool tips" in the "Effects" page. Although these can personalize your desktop, they will devour valuable resources of your system.

People sometimes overlook that turning off the mouse properties-pointer-enable pointer shadow function can also save a lot of memory.

2. Reasonable allocation of virtual memory. Enter the advanced performance settings of System Properties-Advanced-Advanced, select "Program" for the first item, and pay attention to the second item. If the memory is below 5 12, it is recommended to select the program, and if it is above 5 12, select the system cache, which can reduce the use of virtual memory in the system and improve the speed. After all, physical memory is much faster. "My memory is more than 5 12, so I might as well disable virtual memory." Maybe you would say that. Many people recommend it, even many well-known newspapers and magazines, but I have found that it does more harm than good in long-term use.

A. consider the operating system:

Under different operating systems, the setting or disabling of virtual memory is also different, and it cannot be generalized.

Due to architecture problems, Windows 9x/Me has an inherent memory shortage of more than 256MB. If the memory is larger than this amount, Windows 98 will be unstable and start slowly. If large memory is used and virtual memory is disabled, the instability will be further increased. The memory capacity that Windows 2000/XP can effectively manage is about 1GB. Exceeding this amount will be unstable, and it will be different according to the BIOS model of the motherboard and the performance of the chipset.

In addition, the design of Windows itself is that once a process is found to be inactive, it will map the memory space allocated to it to the swap file, so that other active threads can use physical memory as much as possible, instead of starting to use the swap file after the physical memory runs out. Because if it is too late to wait until the physical memory runs out, it will inevitably lead to the stagnation of data transmission and processing on low-configuration machines. Therefore, in principle, prohibiting virtual memory is the easiest way to cause Windows exceptions. Even if there is no running failure, it will frequently prompt that there is not enough virtual memory. Please reset the time to make you tired.

B. Consider common software factors

Generally speaking, if you want to perform large-scale tasks such as plane drawing and 3D animation rendering, you should not disable virtual memory. If you often print documents with a large number of pictures, disabling virtual memory will also cause program errors. Because software like Word needs to generate buffer files before printing and then transmit them to the printer, when the picture size is large and the resolution is high, the buffer capacity is also large. When I used to help advertising artists draw design drawings, I encountered the situation of printing a picture to generate nearly 300MB temporary files. Because both Windows and applications need a certain amount of memory to run, if virtual memory is disabled in the configuration of 5 12MB, it is very likely that you report that you are short of virtual memory in the middle, resulting in a waste of printing paper and ink.

I once borrowed a 5 12 and my own 256 disabled virtual memory from a friend, and the acceleration effect was limited. In addition, the default settings of general Windows are more suitable, especially the default settings of Windows 2000/XP manage virtual memory very well. Try not to change them at will, otherwise it will be difficult for you to judge and analyze if something goes wrong.

3. Go back to the advanced performance settings window of system properties-enter the bottom settings-unless you are a multi-system, cancel all the options here except "Write events to the system log", which will not only reduce the waiting time for startup, but the most important thing is that the system will not automatically restart because of problems, but I recommend you to keep that one, which is very practical. You should all know that there is an "event viewer" (2000/XP is in the management tool, 98/ME seems to be in the attachment, I can't remember. ) Once there is a problem in the future, you can easily know the source of the problem through this thing, which is of great reference value and recommended to friends with a certain level. There is also the first option "Write debugging information" and select "None".

4. Go back to the previous window-enter "Error Report"-select "Disable Error Report"

5.98/Me and XP users run Msconfig (system configuration user)-select "selective startup"-minimize startup items. My practice is to turn it off completely, and the input method will be turned on automatically next time. The trumpet can be turned on in the control panel because of freezing, and so can the firewall. This will further reduce the waiting time for the system to enter the desktop (many of them are slow to enter the desktop and even have problems with the driver here)

6. Control Panel-Internet Options-Temporary File Settings-Select "Do not check" to reduce the waiting time when IE opens. Of course, you can set the home page to be empty. This method is a perfect solution for friends who want to have a home page. (Personal knock on the door)

7. There are still many friends who think it is troublesome or difficult to change the registry optimization. Here we recommend the domestic boutique-Windows Optimizer (it is best to choose "abandon the sound of rain", which is completely green and environmentally friendly, and it is very simple to use directly without registration and installation. The master of optimization covers almost all the formal and effective methods, and the effect is also very good. By changing the registry, the optimization is far away and the possibility of error is reduced, which is very convenient and powerful.

8. Disable idle IDE channels:

For some reasons, Windows XP sometimes uses PIO parallel I/O transmission mode on IDE channels instead of DMA mode. In this case, the user can manually change the IDE channel to DMA mode, which can reduce the CPU cycle occupied by the device. Open the Device Manager (right-click my computer, select Properties, click the Hardware tab, and click "Device Manager" to open it), then click to expand the branch of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller", double-click "Main IDE Channel", and click Advanced Settings. Check the Transfer Mode drop-down menu, set them all to DMA (if available), and then click OK. Modify each IDE controller in the same way. In addition, everyone turns off idle channels. For ICH5/6 South Bridge, Nforce system will improve the startup speed, which is obvious, especially the latter.

9. Disconnect from the network and log in.

Many friends now surf the internet through ADSL, and basically connect to the host computer to boot. But because everyone uses a different modem, many friends' cats support the routing function. Once the cat turns on the power, it will take some time to detect hardware and network breaks. At the same time, XP's network adopts the same real-time monitoring network mechanism as that of 2000, so when starting up, if you connect the network cable to the host and turn on the cat's power, you will start up together. This will lead to slow startup. It is recommended that you disconnect the network or turn off the cat's power to start, and then turn it on after entering the system.

10, * * * Enjoy a quick browse of the local area network.

Under normal circumstances, when connecting other computers, XP will comprehensively check all scheduled tasks on the other computer. This check will make you wait for 30 seconds or more. The way to get rid of it is to start → run →Regedit→ find HKEY _ local _ machine \ software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ current version \ resource manager \ remote computer \ namespace in the registry. Under this key value, there will be a {d6277990-4c6a-11cf-8d7-00a 0060f5bf} key. Restart the computer after deleting, Windows XP will no longer check the scheduled tasks, and the speed will be significantly improved!

1 1, a reminder: always tidy up the disk.

This topic is a cliche, because a large number of fragments seriously affect the reading and writing performance of hard disk (even if NTFS file system is used), so it is necessary to defragment the disk regularly to ensure normal use and improve system efficiency.

Third, personal experience.

The following are all my own experiences, which I believe are very helpful to everyone.

1, optimize your mouse

Don't underestimate, proper settings can make your mouse thoroughly remould oneself. First of all, I suggest that friends who use branded mice must install corresponding drivers, so that they can get a better experience and feel more peaceful and comfortable in winter. Please install the latest Logitech driver, universal. I tried. With three kinds of cheap mice (about 10 yuan), the feeling in CS is comparable to that of a friend who spent more than 50 yuan to buy a swallow.

In addition, expand "Mouse and Other Pointing Devices" in 2000/XP, enter the mouse properties, select the "Advanced Devices" page, and adjust the "sampling rate" to the maximum value here, which can improve the resolution of your mouse and the effect will be better. If your mouse doesn't have a wheel, please change Mouse Wheel Detection to Detection Disabled, otherwise select Assume Mouse Wheel already exists. If there is nothing wrong with your mouse during use, do not deselect "Quick Initialization". After this setting, touch your right hand, it's great! !

2, ADSL dial-up acceleration

Now many friends use ADSL to access broadband. I believe more friends will use XP's own dialing software like me (good compatibility and less dropped calls). Try my method, and you will find that dialing is usually faster (the same applies to friends who use other dialing tools, but the effect is not as obvious as before).

Enter the network connection-dial-up software connection properties window (that is, right-click the connection established by dial-up software)-Options-Cancel the above three options, and set the replay interval to 1 second. Try it now, it's much faster.

Add another piece of knowledge: don't put your mobile phone near the modem at ordinary times. The mobile phone will automatically search the network every short time, and the strong signal interference is enough to cause ADSL to disconnect or even drop the line. This is something that many people ignore, and I found it by accident. It is confirmed that I can look up this information online.

3. Let the webpage update automatically.

Sometimes it is often found that the network has not been updated, but it has been updated after "refreshing". What is the reason? Internet Options-Click the Settings button for Temporary Internet Files under the General Options page, and select "Start IE time check every time" in the pop-up Settings dialog box, so there will be no more problems.

4. Reinstallation of 4.IE

For IE5.0:

Step 1: Open the Registry Editor, find [HKEY _ Local _ Machine \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer], and click the version vector key under it.

Step 2: Double-click the IE subitem in the right pane, change the original "5.0002" to "4.0", and click "OK" to exit the Registry Editor.

The third step: restart, you can reinstall IE 5.0.

For IE6.0:

Method 1: open the registry editor and find [HKEY _ local _ machine \ software \ Microsoft \ active installation \ installed components \ {89820200-ecbd-1cf-8b85-00a 005b4383}.

Method 2: put the Windows XP installation disk, and type "rundll32.exe installation API, InstallHinfsection default installation 132% Windir% \ INF \ ie.inf" in the "Start → Run" window.

5. Skills about "Delete/Uninstall"

(1) About unloading

First of all, I strongly hope that individual novices must not uninstall by deleting the folder where the software is installed, which is fatal to the stability of the system.

If the software comes with an uninstaller, please use it to uninstall. Moreover, if it is an "unwise" program, there will be "automatic/custom". Please select the latter, and always select "Select All" to safely delete the related information of software and registry. If there is no selection, please select Add/Remove in the control panel. Of course, I personally recommend the "intelligent software uninstall" function of the optimizer. If users need to reuse or encounter problems after uninstalling, they can recover the uninstalled software from the backup and recovery manager provided by Windows Optimizer at any time.

One more thing: many times, you will find that programs that have been deleted normally will still appear in the "Add/Remove" list, which is very annoying. You can try to solve this problem: because each software uninstaller will register the records in "Add/Delete" corresponding to a. cpl file with the same name, you just need to search the system to delete them.

(2) About deletion

I believe that many friends often face the problem of being unable to delete. I have summarized the following solutions for your reference.

A. the process of checking and closing associated files or folders.

B use the "delete source file after compression" function provided by "WinRAR". (Suitable for small files)

C open a command prompt window, press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" to open the task manager and close the explorer.exe process (it is best to close all programs before). Finally, switch to the previously opened command prompt window, use DOS command to enter the folder that cannot be deleted, and enter "Del folder name/folder name" to delete the folder. After deletion, select "File → New Task" in Task Manager, and enter "explorer.exe" to re-establish the system shell.

D. In addition, when deleting media files, the deletion failed because the preview function of the system was not turned off. Solution: Start-run, enter "regsvr32/u shmedia.dll" to turn off the video preview function, and "regsvr32/u Thumbvw.dll" to disable the picture preview function.
