Case of cargo transportation
One of my companies exported a batch of 2000 metric tons of chemical products to South Africa by letter of credit. The foreign certificate stipulates: "Partial shipment is prohibited and transshipment is allowed". The certificate also indicates that it shall be handled in accordance with UCP 500. It is now known that the shipping date is approaching, and a cargo ship "Huangshi" bound for South Africa has been booked, which will call at Xingang first and then Qingdao. However, at this time, this batch of chemical products has 1000 metric tons in Xingang and Qingdao respectively, and has not been concentrated together. If you are the manager of this business, you'd better choose a way to handle it. Why?

Conclusion: Xingang and Qingdao should each choose 1000 tons.

Reason:

(1) According to the provisions of UCPP 500, the transport documents indicate on the surface that they should be shipped in the same way and by the same route. Even if the date of shipment or the port of shipment indicated in the transport document are different, as long as the destination indicated in the transport document is the same, it will not be regarded as partial shipment.

(2) In this case, if the exporting company loads 1000 metric tons of the same ship (Huangshi) on the same voyage in Xingang and Qingdao respectively, the bill of lading will not be regarded as partial shipment, although it indicates different ports of shipment and different shipment periods. Therefore, this practice should be considered to be in line with the provisions of the letter of credit and the bank should pay.
