How to clean up unnecessary files in drive C?
I. Deleting files

1, C:\ Windows \ Web \ wallpaper

Contains wallpaper that comes with Windows and can be deleted or transferred to other disks (45.5M).

2、C:\ Windows \ System32 \ DriverStore \ file repository

This folder is a backup of the Window driver, which is generally unnecessary and can be deleted (1.03G). If you want to delete this folder directly, you will be prompted that you do not have permission, so we need to obtain this permission.

First, right-click C: \ Windows \ System32 \ DriverStore \ File Repository-Properties. First, we will take ownership of the folder, click Security-Advanced-Owner, then click Edit-Advanced Other Users or Groups, and enter your user name in the selected object name, or click Advanced-Search Now, select your user name and confirm. Then choose to replace the child container and the owner of the object. If this option is not selected, we only have the ownership of this folder, but not its subfolders and files inside, and then apply -OK, so that we have the ownership of this folder, because the ownership of this folder used to belong to the system, not ours.

Click Permission-Edit-Add, fill in your user name or use Advanced-Search immediately and confirm, then click User Name-Edit, check Full Control/Allow one, and confirm, and then check the permissions that can be inherited from this object to replace the existing inheritable permissions on all descendants. As before, if you don't check this box, you will only have permission to the external folder, but the internal folder still can't be "fully controlled", and then click Apply-OK to delete the internal folder.

3、C:\Boot

This is a Windows startup interface in different languages, which can be deleted except zh-CN. If you delete it directly, you will be prompted that you do not have permission. Method as above (13.3M).

This is the storage location of the test record file after you test the Windows Vista system. It is stored in a folder according to different dates, and can be deleted if it is not needed (9.39M).

5. C:\ Windows \ downloaded installation

There are some programs (Dreamweaver. ) When installing, the installation files will be extracted into this folder and can be deleted.

6. C:\ Windows \ Help

Help files can be deleted. I suggest to keep it for the time being, because I am not familiar with this VISTA, and sometimes it is a bit useful (105M).

7、C:\Windows\IME

Input method file, it is not clear which folder corresponds to which input method. But you can delete it completely, and then install purple pinyin or other input methods yourself. In fact, few people can use intelligent ABC( 136M).

8. C:\ Windows \ Installer

9、C:\Windows\winsxs\Backup

There are some backup files that can be deleted (353M).

10、C:\ProgramData

Some programs will put some files in when they are installed to see if they need to be deleted. But some files are needed when the software is running and can be deleted at will.

Second, C disk to lose weight

1. Fiberless

Find "All Programs → Accessories → Command Prompt" from the start menu, and right-click and select "Run as Administrator". After entering the command prompt, manually enter "powercfg -h off" and press Enter. After execution, you can cancel hibernation, and you will find that the hiberfile.sys file in the root directory of the system partition has been automatically deleted. If you need to enable hibernation in the future, you can enter "powercfg-"

2. Turn off system protection

By default, Vista creates a restore point every 24 hours, which automatically triggers the creation of restore points when installing applications and drivers. The disk space reserved by the system for this function is as high as 15%, which is quite large. In fact, we can selectively turn off the system protection of some disks according to our own needs, or we can type a command similar to "vssadmin resize shadow storage/for = e:/on = e:/maxsize = 500mb" in the command prompt environment to adjust the size of the maximum shadow copy storage space. This can save some space. Note that the value of "MaxSize" here is ≥300MB, otherwise the disk space occupied by the shadow copy will be unlimited.

3. Transfer "Users' Files"

If you pay attention, you will find that Vista has lost "My Documents" in the previous version and replaced it with "Users" folder. When you log in to the system with an account, a folder named after the current account will be displayed on the desktop. Like the previous operating system, Vista will put my pictures, my music, contacts, favorites, documents, searches, videos and other contents in the folder "Users' Files" with the path "Users". If you don't adjust it, you will find that the available space on the disk where the system is located will decrease sharply.

Double-click to open the User Folders window on the desktop, where you can find folders such as pictures, music, videos, favorites and searches. Right-click the subfolder to open the properties window and switch to the Location tab, where we can freely specify a new path.

4. Transfer paging files

It is not much different from the Windows XP era, but the operation steps are slightly changed. Right-click the "Computer" icon on the desktop, select "Properties" in the shortcut menu to enter the "System" window, and select "Advanced System Settings" in the task pane on the left to quickly enter the familiar system properties window. Switch to the "Advanced" option, click the "Settings" button of "Performance" here, switch to the "Advanced" option again, and click the "Change" button in the lower right corner. The Virtual Memory dialog box will open. First, uncheck the "Automatically manage paging file size of all drives" box, and then you can re-specify the free space size of paging files.

5, system restore, system volume information folder:

"System Restore" is one of the most practical functions of Windows operating system. It records the state information of the system at a specific time in the form of "snapshot", that is, the so-called "restore point", and then recovers according to this information when necessary. It is also the most space-consuming file in the system disk. Over time, the file size can reach 4G or even larger.

B: Select "Other Options" here, and then click "Clean" in the "System Restore" attribute;

C: When "Are you sure you want to delete all restore points (except the latest one)?" Click "Yes" in the dialog box to restore part of the available space of drive C. ..

(2) Turn off System Restore to free up hard disk space.

Right-click the PC workstation, select Properties, and then select Advanced System Settings; In the warning dialog box of UAC (User Account Control) asking whether to continue, select Continue; In the System Properties window, select the System Protection tab; Clear all hard disk partitions in the list of available drives.

In the prompt window of "OK to close system restore", select "Close system restore";

Click Yes in the warning window, and then close the system properties window. Clear all hard disk partitions in the list of available drives. In the prompt window of "OK to close system restore", select "Close system restore"; Click Yes in the warning window, and then close the system properties window.
